Today I tried to ship 2 x parcels to two AG members. I took the day off work, booked the collection via Parcel2Go and FEDEX were assigned the collection. Excellent thus far, good price (high, but within the realms of reasonable by comparison to Royal Parcel Farce!) Anyway, long story short... A few hours after confirmation of booking arrived via email I heard the doorbell go. I nipped downstairs armed with 4 x address labels per item and 3 x customs printouts neatly filled in per item. He was just about to take them when he asked 'Where is your FCC form?' 'Come again?' 'FCC form! It is required by customs for any electrical item entering into the United States'. I was aware of the idea, but for 2 f**king games consoles? He refused to take the packages without them (apparently FEDEX get fined!) and I had to rebook (waste of a day off work, waiting around and then having to rearrange taking the boxes into work (a pain as it means taking a taxi and negotiating with the security staff on the door who take great pleasure in obstructing anyone doing anything remotely normal if it goes against some bizarre Security Guard code!) Anyway, when I PM'd the 2 x AG members about this, one actually was interested to know what this FCC document consisted of. Along with my full details, the recipients details, the item being shipped there are 8 questions. At the top is a stark warning that 'anyone knowingly making a false declaration may be fined not more than $250,000 or imprisoned not more than 5 years.... or both' - f**k me, I had better not get the serial number on the back of this 360 incorrect then! You have to mark an X beside the statement that applies to you: 1) An equipment authorisation has been issued by the FCC (I really wish American's would use S and not Z). 2) An equipment authorisation is not required but the equipment complies with FCC technical requirements (how the bloody hell should I know? Lets hope it has an FCC sticker on it!) 3) The described equipment is being imported in limited quantities for testing and evaluation for compliance with technical requirements or marketing suitability. The equipment will not be offered for sale or otherwise marketed. 4) The described equipment is being imported in limited quantities for demonstration at industry trade shows and will not be offered for sale or otherwise marketed. 5) The described equipment is being imported solely for export. It will not be offered for sale or otherwise marketed in the U.S. 6) The described equipment is being imorted (their spelling mistake btw!) solely for use exclusively by the U.S. Government. (My guess is that THIS check box is useful and used to grant the entry of all sorts of shit into the US really quickly, without question!) 7) Three of fewer radio receivers, computers, or other unintentional radiators as defined in Part 15 of the FCC rules (which you are not given, so who f**king knows without going off and looking?) are being imported for an individuals personal use and are not intended for resale. My guess is THIS is my checkbox) 8) The described equipment is being imported for repair and will not be offered for sale or otherwise marketed. So, just in case anyone is planning on sending any electrical items to the USA via FEDEX, you need to print off this form somewhere (probably available on FEDEX site) and establish which tick box applies to you. What bullshit! Why you so freaked out about RF? I mean Canada doesn't give a shit at all! 'Son, does this thing leak RF all over the place and ruin people's entertainment of their already rubbish TV?' - 'Yes!' - 'Come on in!' So, Am I 1 or 7 or both. It says place an X in only one box, so I guess as both electrical items have FCC stickers I am Number 1. If I get this wrong it could cost me 5 years hard labour and no more than £125,000 fine lol
Never heard of the FCC form before. I've received game consoles from the UK before without needing any paperwork. I don't remember how they were shipped, but it sounds like FedEx is "requiring" a form that isn't actually required. I had the same problem with DHL requiring "Homeland Security Paperwork" for a prepaid dropoff return to Dell. In the end, the guy accepted the box without the form (and it actually made it back to Dell). We'll do that when you guys stop putting a 'u' in color.
Parris, never used Fedex or had to sent anything to USA but i would say 7 is your check box to need to put a X in since that looks right for what you are sending. What a farce just to send 2 consoles to the US, and why could they have not made it it simpler to chose the right FCC option??
Straw poll (or rather a Parris sent to jail and heavily find opportunity) as to whomever thinks it's one or the other? Remember both consoles have FCC stickers. Who thinks 1 and who thinks 7? Remember, my financial security and liberty are at stake here ;-)
Number 7 should be appropriate since the consoles should be (unless they include wifi) unintentional radiators per part 15 (read here if you want). Also, how in the hell could you be held accountable for violating (US) FCC rules? :katamari:
I would vote for 7 as well It's just a guess though, I'm not familiar with these documents either. I'd like to hear others thoughts too. Jeff.
I would pick #2 myself 2) An equipment authorisation is not required but the equipment complies with FCC technical requirements
I think that's more intended to cover import into the US, purely to immediately re-export out of the US. To be honest, I think this form is intended for commercial importation & that someone at Fedex is firmly in arse-protection mode, but these days, who knows? I've never had to (nor previously heard of any normal mortal having to) deal with an FCC form when importing compy/videogame hardware before. I can't even find any really useful info via google for this one. Somebody who probably ships lots of stuff like Japan-Games might know more?
Yeah the guy was a bit odd about it. I was asking him for information and he just kept repeating 'You must fill it in otherwise I am not accepting the packages'. He wouldn't even give me the 2 mins I thought it would take to go into each box and look at the stickers. Despite this he stood for 5 mins defending the stupidity of it and trying to fob the blame for the confusion onto Parcel2Go. Well, unless Eric suggests differently then I might just go for Number 7 and be damned! If they haul me before some FCC Board to explain myself I'll just say you guys made me do it! ;-)
Hmm. This doc (off fedex's site via google) seems to indicate option 1, if the FCC ID is known. http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:TpbGWzJQ7ogJ:images.fedex.com/downloads/hk_english/shipdocuments/electronic_form740.pdf+FCC+form+740+help&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=us&client=firefox-a
Well, I am going to go to bed on it and worry in the morning as it's way too late for me to even begin to contemplate FCC regulations :Shit:
