Should I adjust the laser pot on my Dreamcast?

I just bought myself a Dreamcast off of ebay and I'm having some problems with it.
It runs original games just fine but the only burned games it can run are Revive DC releases burned at 48x. Any other groups release I try to use or any other speed (lower only, my burner maxes out at 48x) doesn't work. I'm using some Verbatim discs but they're the really superb ones made in India :/ But I figure the discs must be good enough if I can burn some games onto them and they'll work, same with my burner.
So I was thinking I might need to adjust the potentiometer for the laser to try and improve it's reading capabilities. But I figured I would get some opinions first before diving into that. I just find it weird that only games from one group work for me.

If you say it reads ReviveDC releases but not other releases then the issue isn't with the pot or with the DC reading your media. It's most likely you are burning games that do not selfboot and require the utopia bootdisk to run. So give the bootdisk a shot first and if that doesn't work somthing else may be up. I've never had to pot tweak a DC, and in my experience they will take what ever media you throw at them, even very cheap quality disks, The only reason people used to tweak them was to get CD-RW support.

I would suggest following one of the many tutorials on burning games for DC.

I have 100% success Using IMGBurn with the CDI drivers http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/pc/other/update-v13-imgburn-2570-w-dreamcast-drivers/

Burning on to regular Maxell CD-R (not CD-R Pro) at 8X. I'm not using a special burner, just the Superdrive in my 8 year old iMac.

I generally use the DCRes images because they've been optimized for CD-R.

From what I've heard, worn out or weak DC lasers will play burned games but not originals - not the other way round, it makes sense to me as a music CD should be easier to read than a GD-Rom.

Oops I forgot to say that I've been burning them using IMGBurn with the CDI drivers and I've burned a couple of DCRes images and those didn't work for me :/
The slowest my burner will burn these discs is at 16x but none of my games have worked at that speed so far.
I'll try the utopia bootdisk but I think most of the games I have are supposed to selfboot, but it won't hurt for me to double check since I downloaded them awhile ago.

    EDIT:
So far none of the games I had previously burned have needed/work when I use utopia. But I was able to burn and boot into v1.3 just fine.

I've also been able to burn this release of Armada http://theisozone.com/downloads/dreamcast/dreamcast-isos/armada-usa-3/
and this release of Incoming http://theisozone.com/downloads/dreamcast/dreamcast-isos/incoming/

Almost all the RDC games I have tried have worked, except for Chu Chu Rocket.
The DCRes games I have tried that haven't worked are Alien Front Online, Jet Grind Radio, Sonic Adventure 2, and Gunbird 2. Tried speeds from 16x-48x for many of the games and it made no difference.

I've also noticed that my Dreamcast cannot play burned games if it is already turned on. I have to reset it for it to recognize the disc. But I can boot original games once it's on.

Additional Info: I have a NTSC-U Revision 1 DC manufactured in June of 2000.

So I found a Rev. 1 DC at Goodwill for $10 and it can play all the games I had previously burned that wouldn't work on the other DC. The only ones it couldn't play were non-RDC releases burned at 48x, but they would work if they were burned at 32x or lower. Now that I have two working ones I'll probably go ahead and do a pot tweak on the first one to see if that makes any sort of improvement.

You can check if the discs are selfboot, if they have multisession tracks

Have you tried both Data/Data and Audio/Data selfboot discs

All my discs are selfboot and I'm pretty sure that they're all data/data. Any plus side to Audio/Data?
