Should I buy this for $80?

I have a friend that spent hundreds on an original XBOX with upgraded CPU and XBOX. He lost his job and needs money quick and is offering it to me for $80. Should I bite?

 

There isn't enough information to tell us what it's worth. We need to know which oxbox it is, is it a limited edition? what upgrades are on it (like what chip, or is it a softmod)? Does it come with controllers or games? ect.

if the xbox has been expanded on it's ram and cpu core, a genuine thing, YES!
it's worth 80bat$ imo! (check and see if work on the xbox is on par with trusty, then 80$ would be an INSULT to the man)

if i could find a TSOP trusty board for 80$ (or EQUAL quality) i could care less about housing, the HW is worth at least double that, and i'd PAY it if it was possible on the shipping front. (my location, not the $$$)

It has a 200GB harddrive that's completely full of fun. Of course I already have a softmodded XBOX full as well with the same size of harddrive. It's a standard model, no limited edition. Naturally it comes with a controller. He said it's already TSOPed (which my current one can't be) with patcehd Xecutor 2 Bios that supports the extra CPU and extra RAM. He said he soldered in a mod chip pin header for a Solderless Chip. What do you guys think? He isn't even going to charge me shipping from his place in Pennsylvania to my place here in Chicago. However, he said it's only a 1.1GHz. Should I bail on it and wait for a 1.4GHz?

Yeah, I trust him. Known him for like 8 years now. We're both passionate about this stuff and he blows his money on it. This is the 3rd time I've bought something from him when he's lost a job. He's clearly got bad work ethic when he's employed, but it benefits me.

Be a good friend buy it, But give him the option to buy it back at the same price when he find some work and has a little more money.

 

Good point. He did say that certain official games won't run without the XBE file of those particular games being patched. Anybody know what he's talking about? Is that a negative in this situation?

 

absolutely NOT!
all he's referring to is playing the games from hdd itself, some games are copy-protected, it's this he's likely taking into account!
(app 'dvd2xbox' and UNLEASHX da$h can patch most of the games to play, work in progress as not all are patched yet)

Thats really odd that someone would upgrade the CPU only and not the RAM. I have never seen this before and I have a few motherboards with the 1GHz and I have a couple of the 1.4GHz boards also. Also there is only 2 types of CPU upgrades. 1.4GHz and 1GHz. I never heard of a 1.1GHz.

Also the reason you have to patch the .xbe is to tell the xbox that the CPU has been changed and it will help with games running to fast. Some original games can run to fast because they use the CPU as a timer.

But that price is pretty good. I sell the 1GHz motherboards with the 128 RAM already done for 160 USD. I have 2 of them in stock right now. If it truly does have the CPU done and not the RAM I would suggest getting the RAM done. That is a must and makes almost no sense why they would have done that unless it is a 1.6 motherboard and only the CPU could have been upgraded. Then I would not buy it if I were you.

No, he 100% definitely upgraded the CPU and the RAM. He also told me that the listed speed is 1.1 but the max standard speed is 997Mhz.

 

That is the 1GHz upgraded CPU. That is what they run about 997MHz. So that is a standard 1GHz and with the 128 RAM upgrade as well.

 

I received it today. Time to see what fun I can have!
