Yeah we know about these. The issue with them is for you to buy them legally the ports have to be wrecked. You have to have donor ports (at the back of the XDK) and be able to solder them in.

If you want an XDK and can solder. Its a fucking steal. If you cant solder it mean sending it out to somebody else and shipping would make it less of a steal (however it would more than likely still be a big saving)

Try sending Sneakypeanut a message. He knows about XDK models.

For the chinese kits we got xdk and xedk
    XDK: final hardware
    Xedk: Proto Hardware

Not all of them are all broken up, the more expensive packages bring everything ok with them and I don't think they have fucked up ports.

why hey there. my personal advice is not to buy a "china kit" there will just rrod and u dont really know what your buying. XeDK is a prototype probs with a mobo 001-007, they cannot run retail recoveries without some hacking, interesting bit of hardware but not much use to the casual user. XDK will be 008-011 final motherboards they will run retail recoviers and the boards wont veary much from a retail. if your willing to take a gamble you can try getting a kit from taobao but dont go to cheap cos they will just be shit. the ones that are about 600 yuan are about alright ive had a few go through my hands and they seem alright, not something id buy though.

    hope this helps

If somebody had the time they could probably make a living off buying up all the cheap XDK's from taobao

Wouldn't shipping kill the deal? Considering your getting mostly junk systems with no real guarantee for anything? Or maybe I'm missing something?

    EDIT / Clarification:

I know they claim to offer a warranty to stand apart from other sellers, but I consider it largely worthless/token (who honors warranties for illegal kits?) In addition, even if you opt for an expensive package, the seller does seem to understand the risk vs reward and have priced accordingly. They definitely know the condition of all the kits, so I doubt they would just randomly send you one. They'll sort according to quality and give what you pay for.

Another thing to worry about is that if you use a for-commission service, they won't know jack about the XDK's. That means they could be sent virtually anything and they'll consider the matter closed and ship out to you. If something goes wrong and your lucky enough to qualify for a return, you'll end up paying shipping at a rate of 4 times. That is, paying to send to the company, to the seller, and then back again.

I'd much rather buy a kit from someone here at Assembler, unless I really did want to gamble some money away. But with gambling, most cases the house always wins. :-/

shippings not that much, its about 50 yen or so. i decided to buy one of them for a total of 60$ so guess ill just have to wait and see. 60$ isn't too much of a loss for me right now so if it doesn't work ill try and fix it and failing that, oh well.

I'd avoid buyfromtaobao. They're much cheaper than the somehow more popular taobaonow(which rips you off on shipping big time, and forces you to use EMS instead of regular airmail), but they don't care about your products. Once I ordered a Famicom game and they received the box broken and crushed. Instead of telling me, they just sent the game cart only and I had to complain once I got the package, to which they responded "We didn't think it was important." Yes, even if you don't get EXACTLY what's pictured in the auction you paid them for, it's OK to assume it's not important and the buyer won't care. Assholes.

And for some stupid reason I ordered from them again, getting some Gameboy games. When I got them the boxes were all taken apart and folded, pretty much ruined, I'm pretty certain they were trying to cut shipping costs and pocket some of the money for themselves :/

    They're not worth the trouble.

I would love to order a few of these as getting them lead reballed is no problem for me. I have been doing console repairs for stores for a few years now. However how do you order on the website? I can't read a thing.
