Hi all. I have a nice Jasper kit I've disassembled to protect U6T1 and upgrade the hard drive. I've done both, but after re-assembly the power supply keeps showing a red light indicating a short or electrical problem (afaik). The fault happens during standby while the motherboard LED would otherwise be flashing orange. I've isolated this short to the top "analog" board of the sidecar, the one that seats the HDD. I've gone as far as to separate that board from the lower digital board and detach the rest from the system, leaving only the analog board and its two long power wires, and the fault still occurs. I can pop my HDD in a retail enclosure for now, but I'd like to reattach my sidecar. Where should I start looking? I never saw the magic smoke, nothing is obviously touching or blackened on the board, and the kit works fine when it's removed. I reinstalled the plastic HDD insulators when doing the swap. I've tried a different power supply and tried this power supply on a retail Jasper. I found a thread about a similar problem, but I've double-checked all my connections against the stickied sidecar teardown.
Peace of mind? There are still malicious XEXs that can ruin your day if you happen to run one of them. I'm diligent about what I run, but I'd rather do the one-time fix than ever risk it.
Yeah, that seems to be your Problem, this is definitely not a 213 W PSU. To run a Sidecar you'll need one, though.
Even on a Jasper? I was under the impression that was only for earlier boards. It was working fine with the same power supply with the stock hard drive.
Hm, guess I'll hunt one down then. Is there any good place to get them besides random sellers? Searching hasn't yielded any relevant threads.
I saw that one, but thanks. I'm holding out for one native to my region (120V AC). That one is marked 200-240V only.
And by the way, there's always a couple of them 120 volts ones on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-X...t=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item23281be609 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-X...t=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item257ae19085
Welp, that was it. I got my PSU, wired the sidecar back up with the new drive, and all is well. I could swear it worked with a lesser supply before but I can't rule out temporary insanity
