According to many game-news sites SIERRA has taken a cue from LucasArts and released today two compilations of six games each. Space Quest and King's Quest.

Although not remakes and being a bit on the difficult side, with the ability to die and everything, the two compilations apparently run for 15USD on Steam till July 30 and run regularly at 20USD thereafter.

Anyone who will/has already gone through with a purchase, do post your impressions of the new VISTA/XP front-end.

Heh I already own a Sierra compilation pack for the Space Quest series on CD.

This is why the companies don't allow their ancient games to become free "abadonware." They can cash in on them periodically in the future with compilation packs. Steam is a really nice way to make them feel kinda fresh and new, too.

The Sierra that made these games is long dead, yes. Doesn't stop the copyright holders from collecting some extra dough. The brand was still around until last year but is dead now too.

I can't tell from the Steam Page, but does anyone know if it also includes the original CGA (EGA?) version of Space Quest I, and not just the VGA remake?

I have the CD collection that was released by Vivendi two years ago, and I don't think that the original EGA editions were included. They were with the old, old collections that are still wicked expensive on eBay (edit: apparently not true; go grab the old edition if you want the original releases), but no such luck with the newer ones.

Obviously in the case of Space Quest 2 and 3 where there was no (official) VGA remake, they included the original EGA releases.

They still need to re-release Quest for Glory. I bought King's Quest and Space Quest immediately, but Quest for Glory trumps both of those for me.

Thanks for the info. I actually have one of the older collections that had 1 through 5, but it's lost in a box somewhere and being able to grab it off steam would be a nice for the convenience factor. Plus I'd like to have a version of 6 that actually plays correctly on a current PC.
