Silent Hill 2 was delivered a few days ago, and while testing it crashed around the second scene (where you get the map from your car). I thought it was just my HDD playing up but weirdly, every other game I have runs fine, it's just Silent Hill 2. I later grabbed out my 1.6b Crystal XBOX and guess what? Works fine, is this a known problem for Silent Hill 2?
I have no idea what might be your problem but.. what's the difference from Silent Hill 2 Inner Fears and Restless Dreams?
Pretty sure Inner Fears is PAL? Also, I recall Silent Hill 2 on the Xbox having problems in general. & When I copy my disc onto the HDD, it doesn't play properly. I have 6 different Xbox's, so maybe if I get bored I will see if it works on any of them when copied.
It looks to go like this... Inner Fears - PAL Xbox. Director's Cut - PAL PS2 & PC. Restless Dreams - US Xbox. However US PS2 update and US PC had no name change, confusing to players of the original. Inner Fears and Director's Cut titles never reached us.
It could an issue reading the disc, as I've had a few games that would lock up the game if it couldn't read a certain point on the disc - AFAIK later, newer drives dealt with scratches a little better: is the disc damaged at all?
The disc is fine, it could just be the drive, however the disc drive that's in my 1.1 is from a 1.6 system. I haven't copied the disc over yet, I just don't have the room for it. It's really odd, are there any revisions of Silent Hill 2 for the XBOX?
I don't know about your exact problem, but i do know the Xbox port of SH2 was a pretty bad rush job port. It functioned alright, it just wasn't that stable. It's even more apparent when you play it on a 360, it goes crazy at times. There was a Platinum Hits release for the Xbox in the US, but i don't think it was a revision of any sort. If you want to play that version of SH2 you'd be better of picking up the PS2 version (Greatest Hits in the US, Directors Cut everywhere else) or the PC version (1080p support with a few tweaks and mods).
I'm just collecting for the XBOX right now, it's not that I'm heavily into Silent Hill 2. It runs fine on the 1.6 if I ever wanted to play it all the way through. It was just an interesting problem I experienced, also it's good for people if they come across the same problem and know what the problem is.
