I actually have the Faulty Towers set. Just got the complete Monty Python set also. Didn't know there was a Young Ones set, have to get that next.

Yes, I suppose I am stupid.

I think you're stupid if you buy anything Absolutely Fabulous. My uncle own about 8 VHS tapes of the Faulty Towers series. Good comedy, it has its moments. But I would like to see Mr. Bean in that collection.

Except Mr Bean is an ITV program, not the BBC's to put on dvd. Although i believe over here in region2 land there are a few mr bean dvds.

Agree with you on the ab fab point - The later series' were particularly appaling

Hmm, I guess ya missed my point... but first.....

In America, they have BBC America. They show BBC programmes, and other British programmes which I guess they bought the American broadcast rights to, e.g. Father Ted - screened on Channel 4 here, not the BBC.

    Anyway, back to my point......

Here is a big bundle of DVDs (and a damn good price IMHO). As you can see at the bottom, amongst them are:

    Absolutely Fabulous: The Complete Collection
Black Adder: The Complete Collector's Set
The Young Ones: Every Stoopid Episode

    (i.e. the ones I circled)

I also circled some titles in the "Customers who bought this DVD also bought:" section. For those not familiar with Amazon, this section shows what other customers bought at the same time as buying the item you are viewing... the point being you may like that too if you like the item.

As you can see, they bought the box sets of The Young Ones and Absolutely Fabulous... both of which appear in this bundle!!!

There's stupid point 1... spend a load of money on a bundle of DVDs, and throw more money in to get a duplicate of one or two titles!

Amazon also do a bundle deal...e.g.:

Buy the books "C For Dummies" and "C++ For Dummies" at the same time and save $5.

I circled the bundle deal here. Why? I'll tell you!

The bundle deal is buy Black Adder - The Complete Collector's Set with this bundle. Of course, the Black Adder box set is in this bundle!!!

Well OK, they're not actually offering you any EXTRA saving with this one (although they make it sound like they are), and they're recommending you buy a duplicate copy of something... which is $85! Crafty, eh?

Im pretty sure its not done on purpose as i think its a system that actually puts those bundles up.

But have you ever thought that someone out there might be a huge fan(s) who bought the DVDs by themselves and then saw the set and bought that too. Typical fanboyism. Also, Amazon does market research, automated market research. Its in Amazon's policy, they track your buying record and base most of those suggestions at the bottom. So seeing something like that is typical. You can probably see the same thing with a PC Game like Never Winter Nights. Theres a Platinum edition that has all the expansions, but if you look down it will probably say a customer who bought this also bought the first Never Winter Nights.

I don't see what this has to do with Americans in general being 'silly' or stupid.

  9. So really, it's not funny because it's something generated by a computer, yet it's supposed to be a jab at 'stupid Americans'. That was my take on the thing.

Been in the UK twice in my life, once for 3 days and once for 8 yours, but I love British Comedy. Shame we only get BBC1 + 2 here, it beats all national TV, imho.

I've never been in the UK but I like British Comedy too: Monty Python, Coupling, The Office (one of the best ever) and I have recently seen a TV show by a guy named Dom Joly and I loved it, but unfortunately I don't know the original name of the show.

I absolutely love British comedy (admittedly of the more mainstream variety such as Shaun of the Dead, Bridget Jones etc ) but what I was referring to was his comment of the original post being Brit comedy. Lost on me if it is.

I just searched for that name on www.tvtome.com and indeed it is the show I mentioned. Thanks for the info! And on TV Tome I found out that they made a US version of it. It's amazing that anything made out of the US that gets some attention to itself must get a version for the US market. And they usually turn out to be not so good as the original :angry

Both English and American versions have aired here and of course the American one is not as good. You guys have no clue how bad our ripoffs can be. Consider this: We have our own Iron Chef, our own version of Shall We Dance (with Jennifer Lopez/Richard Gere?!), The Ring, soon every novel Japanese movie ever... most of our media is very unoriginal now. We've done mostly nothing but crap/crappy sequals/crappy spinoffs lately.

Agreed w/ Kyuusaku. Any half-decent Japanese film (and there aren't that many) seems to get snatched up and Hollywood-ised. I refuse to see Lopez in the new Shall We Dance. The Japanese one was great -- and I'll leave it at that.

Didn't know there was a US Trigger Hapy TV, but the English one was great.

There was a funny-ass thing on the internet I read somewhere entitled "American Man Understands Sarcasm." An English guy at the office sent it to me and I pissed myself. Anyone got that anywhere?
