That video ignores a lot of macro factors that are way more relevant that his "baaaaaww new games are bad!" rant What are the biggest markets for videogames? NA, Europe and Japan Whats happening in all 3? the economy is in the crapper Reports say in Japan tough times and people not being able to afford new stuff is costing the economy $420 billions, dollars btw not yens. Unless you live in a bubble you know half of Europe is under water and the other half if trying to keep themselves from falling down the same hole. And in the States my generation is the first in history to make LESS than their parents did. There is a reason why so many people flock to free apps: 99% you can play the entire game for free, and the irony is the players who spend the most are also the poorest and many times also unemployeed. See http://gawker.com/5604613/how-an-army-of-junkies-and-kids-enriches-tech-titans There were shit games before, there were always shovelware, but the fact is a lot of people don't buy games anymore not because they don't want to but because they can no longer afford to.
Well, looking at the clock on the lower left hand corner of both pictures, it appears that roughly 21 hours had transpired, of course this is probably game time and condensed. So, yes if this took only 3 hours to amass, then the game is too easy which will lead to burnout.
I think he was refering to the fact that there offering "SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition" for free , and you can play that instead Personally I think its a numbers game for me: So looking at the above, there are 3 expensive options, Dead Space 3, Medal of Honor Warfighter and NFS Most wanted, Dead Space 3 being the newest. SC4 Deluxe while being the default choice for sims city fans, its allso the cheapest for EA, and is listed regularly on steam sales, most sim city fans allready own it, so its pretty useless. Several multiplayer games listed there, but Battlefield 3 ,has so many DLC packages and you still need to pay for things like the experience DLC bundles just to play it els every one will have a huge advantage over any new players, same probably with MoH Warfighter. I think Dead Space 3 is the most tempting, it has a good single player, is the newest, costs the most, and has some decent online MultiPlayer.
Yeah, I did mean Simcity 4, it was a silly joke. I can't imagine Plants vs. Zombies would be more than 50 Rand (about $5 USD). Of course, if you go by the Metacritic score for the games, Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 are the highest, at 89 Just food for thought, I've decided I'm not getting the new game until they let me play offline.
Еxactly. I don't like to pay a ton of money for an offline game that can't be played without internet connection and saves your data on some server - two years later they release new game and pull the plug...
Failure? For who. This is the first game that have ever hold the piracy for more than one week (i mean already released one, not those stupid unlocked releases and stuff). It seems a pretty efficient anti-piracy system in my opinion.
It depends on your perspective, but on a consumer level it was a failure, and a business level it wasnt much of a success due to all the bad publicity and the fact that they now have to spend more money on handing out "free games" As for being the first game to "Hold back piracy" , lots of games got cracked later, just recently Hawks 2 got cracked allmost a year later than release, and lets not forget "Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare" where the scene deliberately did not crack it on day-1 to help the devs with sales and try and prevent the company from shutting its door, and if you go back a bit further ,secure-rom and starforce etc.. and a whole bunch of others didnt get day-1 cracks till the scene worked out how to break it. Efficient for the time being, but eventually it will be breached.
There will never be an uncrackable DRM system. It might take a while, but everything will get cracked.
Hey, it took over 10 years to crack bleemcast! News regarding the always-online DRM: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/12/simcity-server-not-necessary/
