    Afternoon gents,

Most of the afternoon here I have been searching trying to find a definite guide on how to soft mod a PS2 using 007 agent under fire,

All I want is to be able to install games onto my Harddrive but I have been lots of guides saying I have to open up my Ps2 and others say that I don't.

I personally don't mind I will open my Ps2 if need be but...

Is there a simple step by step guide to this mod on here or a link to an external website that I can follow?

I have these items and I believe these are all I need to complete the job:

    Fat Ps2
    007 Agent Under Fire game
    Ps2 Network adaptor
    PS2 memory card
    IDE Hard drive

If anyone could help this would be great,

    Thanks in advance,

I never needed this as I started using independence exploit that I copied to the memory card using a commercial save game copier/cheat product.

You'll need a slide too so you can swap the original for the hacked game. I've never made one and my fat ps2 was bought with a broken dvd tray, which the friend who fixed it for me put down to the previous owner being heavy handed when using a swap tool.

There are people who will install freemcboot onto a memory card for you as well, so you don't need to do any of this.

Could just use the USB memory card adapter and copy over FreeMCBOOT.

Apparently it doesn't work that way and needs to be installed. But not tried it myself so can't confirm.

SONY would not send a C&D for that if it didn't work. :p
The "USB thing" (CECHZM1) can and will make working *installs* of FMCB. It doesn't copy, it installs.

Yeah the official one will work, the one that you can actually buy doesn't.

That's not a problem with the program. It's the Chinese being, well you know, cheap.

If it costs them $200 to make, and they sell 400 copies for $10 each, when does the train arrive in Paris?

Simplest way is to post your memory card to a friendly member and have them write the FreeMCBoot files for you.

Simplest way is take the HDD image and DD it to a PATA hard drive, shove it on a phat PS2 and watch as it boot up when you power it on. Someone else already linked the instructions so I won't bother.

That's common knowledge now that the PS2 does not check if the HDD is SONY, the OSD software itself was doing that.

It will boot non SONY HDDs no problem, as long the MBR is correctly installed and MG encrypted as required by the PS2 security system.

Rob, I'm I have the same hardware as you except the game. I have a 120gb IDE hard drive that fits in the ps2 fast using the network adapter and I thought it would be easy put games on the HD to play. I've done some research but haven't tried anything yet.

The research I did has led me to needing a memory card with freemcboot first to get the hard drive ready. Can buy a card pre-done or make my own by doing the disc swap trick with 007 Agent Under Fire game. Few other games can be used but seems like that game is the easiest way. I don't get why there isn't an .exe that formats the hard drive for you in your computer and pre-loads the hard drive with the software so you can play backups but apparently not.

There's pre crafted HDD images now that boot any harddrive on any "phat" PS2 as long the PS2 can read the harddrive correctly. A point is being missed here...

I think I found a pre-crafted HDD image. Will try it this weekend.
