Hello all! First of all, let me say that I've been learning a lot from the forum, and if I ever find myself in a place I can contribute, I'll not hesitate, as this seems to be a great community of gamers. Now to the matter. I want to build myself a VGA box (maybe with SCART RGB also, since I'm from Europe and here TVs aren't usually equipped with S-Video ports). My question is about the video connector for the Dreamcast. Is there any place I can source such connector? Do I have to hack an existing cable, and, if so, does the connector from the RF cable contain all the wires connected to the plug? Thanks in advance. Cheers
AliExpress is a good source for this cables. I recently ordered some from there (a lot with 5 pieces).
So, you're telling me that one can crack the connector open without destroying it, and then solder a cable to it?
GillBert, the OP wants to build a VGA cable suing this connector. Are you sure there's all contact/wires on that cheap cable for what he wants? I highly doubt they'd include all wires if only 4 are required.
I am curious about this too, as there are some custom things that I'd like to build for the Dreamcast's AV port. However, as far as I have found, only the VGA box has all of the contacts on the connector. The AV cables will only have the contacts for composite, ground, left audio, and right audio. I don't think it would be easy to add more contacts.
It sure does seem to have all contacts on the DC connector : http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v2/641215712_6/Audio-Video-AV-Cable-for-SEGA-Dreamcast-ES009-.jpg Though I highly doubt they'd put more than 4 wires + shield (if there's any on that cheap cable) and I don't see how you'd add wires without destroying the connector.
The cable itself does not have more than 4 wires of course, since it's a composite video cable. But the plug does have all the contacts, here some pics of it: I have successfully made a VGA cable with it, unfortunately I don't have pics of my work. But it's easy to open the connector with a stanley knife. Isn't too hard to solder some wires in it. Anyway guys, keep in mind that is a chinese/cheap product... It does not have the same quality construction that an original product does. But it does the job and I think it's the only option available to make a VGA cable for the DC.
