I'm looking to set up an FTP on the new server, anyone know how to do this if the ISP blocks ftp requests?

I assume some sort of tunneling could be used.

Depends how the ISP blocks FTP, you could try to set it up on a different port if it's just tcp port 21 that's blocked.

Just use a different port, should work for most people. Maybe FTP over SSL/TLS might be a solution for the rest.

What they said. Usually ISPs don't do any sort of deep packet inspection so figuring out the protocol being used is a bit beyond them unless they suspect someone of seriously abusing their ToS.

SSL typically masks the protocol well enough to prevent them from figuring out whats going on beyond an increase on traffic from multiple IPs on port XX all using SSL.

Will people be able to anonymously upload files?

With military style raid on people for files these days, it seems no where is safe to host imho.

I could set something up but who would pay all the bandwidth fees?

the REAL reason why people get raided from what ive read is that they have a nack for posting on ebay like selling kits to the general public and spreading files via FTP and leaking other peoples shit, if there was away to upload anonymously then i would think that worry would go away, but what do i know i lost ALL my shit from a hard drive failure haha 300 gigs ALL gone :-\

You can anon upload as much as you want, but the person receiving/hosting and sending them back out is going to be the person who gets raided. Especially on a paid for, private server.

I don't mean to necro this thread but it seems this discussion was never resolved. If anyone remembers correctly I had a team of memebers for over a year go through partnernet and collect prototypes as well as purchased rare protos from other systems. I had everything from unreleased prototype games and early builds (Which I didn't release until launch date) to debug builds. Then with permission from all the contributors, I opened the ftp for 3 days here at assembler. Not to mention the prototypes that I released here in 0bit. Everything from the FTP was downloaded by users and with my permission could re-upload them; therefore, I found them all over torrent websites as well. Not once was I raided or anyone else involved for that matter. DAE and MTW were arrested and raided for stealing thousands of dollars of intellectual property and boasting about it. MTW's charges were even dropped and Microsoft denies any involvement with pressing charges in DAE's raid claiming only that he was investigated for possessing blizzards credit card information as well as re-possessing the devkit. The charges he is facing is for child pornography, possession of illegal substances, and possessing credit card information with intention to commit theft. Mega is encrypted and we could all use the same login, however, keep in mind the private key is stored by kim dot com and if HE was raided again, then they could confiscate all data on the servers. I really doubt the FBI would take interest in proto-types and unreleased games at the point however.

unfortunately my collection is up and missing, I am banging around the house to see if it was hidden somewhere when my lady moved in. It doesn't look hopeful however. Anyone who was able to get access to my server for those 3 days, please contact me if you still have a backup. This was specifically why I released my content before taking a vacation form the boards. If those backups are gone, the community would have lost an archive that contained some of the rarest, now extinct prototypes collected, ranging from Nintendo NES to PS3 and 360.

If this is still a thought, what about sftp? It is essentiall FTP over SSH. User management would have to be worked out, but SSH is quite configurable.

As was said earlier it's easier to just use a big file share site like MEGA and lock it up so only those you want can get to it. I did this with 2 hours of video for my cousin and as far as I know it is still hidden over on my profile.
