According to this site it seems that one of the best rpgs ever is getting a long awaited sequels. If you haven't played the first I recommend digging out your Dreamcast and buying it http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q1-2003/031603a.html
I was about to say... I knew they began working on a new Skies back on the Gamecube shortly after the remake came out, but that was a loooooooong time ago. And I doubt Daddy Sammy would let them do something like that now. Most you'll get is another remake to waste your money on on the PS2 or something.
Na, it was announced well after the GC port (that was actually announced shortly after the DC's demise). Actually, if you'll recall, prior to Sega dying, I mean... going 3rd party, there was talk of a Skies of Arcadia 2 being in developement. Then, later on, the talks came back a year or so after the GC version came out. But then Sega died again... I mean, got bought by Sammy, and... it vanished.
Oh come on. I mean, up to a point, yes. But towards the end Grandia II just fell apart and Ryudo became a sniveling bitch. Ugh, I hate the last few hours of that game.
Skies of Arcadia was incredibly slow to get in to I found. It was a good game but not what people make t out to be. To be honest I don't think the Dreamcast had any real "great" RPGs Sad but true I think. Yakumo
Well since we're back in 2003 again, did you guys see the Halo2 trailer? its awes0me! Anyway, g2g to school, cya
I liked both and found them unique enough is their systems. Grandia 2 had better writting. But nothing beats getting the kick ass ship at the begining
If you're playing an RPG for story, well, I can't really comprehend that. I always find the stories lame. For me, it's more about presentation outside the story. The Grandia series' battle system is still unmatched in my book, which made even Grandia III playable (although I sold it immediately after finishing it). The original Grandia on the Saturn is still pretty much my favorite RPG after Phantasy Star. I can't play those games anymore, as I have no time for a 40 hour game. They're fun to reminisce on though.
Cool battle system > insanely annoying random battle feature. Gay, fantasy J-boys & girls > pirates (Arrrrgh, shiver me timbers) I'm sure there's more I could do. I enjoyed them both, but I really couldn't get over the whole pirates thing. It did get on my nerves. All J-RPGs are linear after you've played the original Phantasy Star. It set the bar... and pretty much everything thereafter fell way under it.
The DLC the SEGA offered was kinda cool, the frozen fish sword and the lollypop, but yeah those random encounters were a little much for SOA. Heard they fixed that for SOA: Legends or whatever the NGC version was called.
The battle system for Grandia II was its saving grace, thanks to the repetition of walking along a pre-determined path, fighting monster after monster... okay, maybe this is like every RPG, but if you liked the pirate idea in SoA (I did), then the sense of freedom of pootling around the world in your own ship was awesome, kinda like the feeling of playing Shenmue (DC FTW) I played both through to the end, so I guess it's just personal preference.
