SkyOS

Discussion in 'Off Topic Discussion' started by Greatsaintlouis, Nov 6, 2004.

  1. After a discussion with Purge yesterday that involved this interesting-looking new OS, I'm a bit interested in downloading it and giving it a try. However, maybe I'm just retarded, but the website seems designed to stymie the efforts of anyone looking for a useful download of the OS. Can anyone help me out with a link to a download site?? And if a place happened to have a Live CD of the OS, that would be cool as well, it would save me time reformatting my spare drive to see if the thing works at all. Any help would be appreciated! :smt023

"Use our new operating system! It's still in development, but it's getting better!" ok... "It's closed source" uh... "give us money to use it" good luck guys...

  6. Yeah, something makes me balk at the idea of paying for a beta OS... I wouldn't pay for Zeta, and I'm not paying for this until it's final. Hello, IRC....

:smt043 So this is what happens when MS releases the source code to the Chinese government. It gets leaked and then its fused with linux code. Looks like it runs slow as hell. Just to point something out:

The thing on the side where you can expand the options such as "rename file". I think MS patented that feature.

Noawadys it seems most "innovation" in operating systems not Windows and OSX is directly copying features from Windows and OSX.

  9. Except it's not Chinese in any way nor based on Windows, or even Linux for that matter. I haven't tested it, but from what I hear it runs surprisingly fast.

You're right to an extent, and my opinion on that is that we're vastly approaching the point where our current GUI metaphor - that of a desktop covered in files, etc. - becomes obsolete in favor of something more natural-feeling. Just my thought.
