Since i never used Skype before, i was wondering what version i should download and use.

I always try to avoid using bloated softwares as much as i can, specially the ones that constantly have "updates" running no matter what (ex: googleupdate.exe on google softwares, facebookupdate on facebook messenger,...). And knowing MS bought them makes me even more worried.

So, any advice on this? Should i use a particular version or the most recent one?

Let me tell you about skype.

Skype was bought by microsoft; the US government could not spy on skype so they
gave microsoft money secretly, to buy it. Microsoft then made it from decentral system to
server system with us government permanent access back door to listen all the time.

They already used it to track and kill people with drones, including u.s. citizens overseas who need to go on trial.
One was 16 year old boy of a terrorist. No trial as guaranteed in the law. Just murdered him.

So skype will save everything you ever say and do. And it will be held by us government.

If you must use skype, make a throw away gmail or hotmail and use skype over proxy server with fake names.

You can also use audio encryption over skype, or better yet use some other program.

I would say use the oldest version of skype that still works, it will be the least memory. Skype is like itunes it keeps getting bigger and more memory.

To be honest, i'm not gonna use it. It's my brother that wants me to install it on his notebook.

And yes, i've read all that about Skype some days ago. Since i never used it, nor plan to, i decided to ask for advice.

I'm mostly concerned about malware and stuff like that, as he will just talk with his wife and friends.

So, should i install the latest version or what particular older version that still works?

If I remember right, ICQ released a new version not so long ago.

But to avoid all the theories, people should use a non US based messenger.
