No photos because I'm a bit lazy and I suspect this is worthless either way. Years ago bought a bulk 3DO lot, and the oddest item was Slam 'n Jam 95, the basketball game by Crystal Dynamics, in a standard jewel case, with full thick instruction manual (25 pages), and colour back insert. But! The disc had no colouring or images on it, just a clear plastic sticker with the printed title of it, and "CDG-120000" underneath. I would guess CDG stands for Crystal Dynamics Game? The disc has multiple data rings on it, and the little serial code on the inner transparent plastic ring, reading: CDG-128014. The disc also seems to be developing disc rot, since there are weird watermarks in circular rings for some sections. Is this a legit retail copy? But then why no printed art on the CD? Is this a bootleg? But then why the full printed manual and cover inserts, in colour? Is this a beta developmental copy? But then why the fancy booklet and box? Putting it in my PC shows no readable files via Win OS. It's a shame the game itself is so unexciting. Is there value in this? EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not trying to sell copies of a beta, I'm trying to work out what this is. If it's an original beta, I might sell, or if it's a bootleg then I'll just bin it.
Dump the disc, then explore the image for "special" files ? You will need a Mac though, if I remember correctly...and there was a "3DO_Commander" tool by a russian developer...back in the days.
I don't have a Mac, only Windows XP and Windows 7. Would it be possible to find anything interesting by ripping an ISO? Does anyone know the significance of the CDG serial numbers?
With a disc image and having it properly ripped you'd be able to let others look at it and mess with the data Try the tool I've linked (DICUI) and select "Panasonic 3DO Interactive Multiplayer" for the System/Media Type. This is the tool Redump uses so it will likely handle any weirdness with the disc. From there select a filename and output folder. It will alert you to any errors along the way.
DICUI will dump 3DO fine on windows, but you'll need certain plextors http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Disc_Dumping_Guide_(DICUI)
I'm pretty sure it's just a normal CD-R unless there's something I'm missing That and with no photos to go off of all I can do is assume
just to let you know - there's dd for windows or you can use ubuntu, dd never failed on 3DO discs for me.
I tried your program, but it claims there is no disc in the drive. Which is weird. Do I need to install more stuff? My other programs detect a disc just. I ripped it with ImgBurn in ISO format, or would a CloneCD image be better? BIN/CUE format? The ImgBurn ISO is 100 MB (105,164,800 bytes). CRC32: CCC07145 SHA1: B7ED2BFC55F743CDC649B8F04D99254A043EDA34 You know, if this was a proto of Metal Gear Solid for 3DO, or Resident Evil 1.5, I might be more protective of it, but if you PM me your email I'll use WeTransfer to send it to you in a ZIP. I only log in here every few days. EDIT: Here is what ImgBurn says about the CD.
>I tried your program, but it claims there is no disc in the drive. Which is weird. Do I need to install more stuff? My other programs detect a disc just. With DICUI it says something like "it appears there's no disc in your drive, proceed anyway?" then you click "yes".
As an addendum to my previous post, opening up the ISO reveals the "iamaduck" strings common to 3DO images. https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/e8z8r/til_why_3do_disk_images_start_with_several/ Anyway... Thanks dizzzy! Got an error, and it dumped a bunch of text files in the folder. Disc rot perhaps? Here are two:
hmmm not sure. some apps are better at handling irregular discs than others. isobuster is great with CD-Rs. Can you dump it twice with iso buster and compare hashes?
