hi guys , i have a Slim PS3 that i softmodded about 2 weeks ago and the HDD has some problems so i replaced it. All is cool in that department now but i would like to keep the faulty HDD in case of an emergency and any troubleshooting with my other PS3's. What happens when the HDD is in the PS3 it runs ok but when you install a game the XMB response is slow until i do a Rebuild Database.

below is what errors it has , i was wondering if there was an app that can blacklist the bad parts of the HDD. I have tried HDD Regenerator and the drive comes up ok so it seems it's not bad sectors and something else.

If it seems like bad sectors keep popping up on your disk, you should consider replacing that disk.
Modern HDDs will remap bad sectors with reserve sectors (hence it could always appear to have no bad sectors), but that will not continue happening forever.

I used to have a disk like that in my PlayStation 3. I restarted all my game progress twice - since that HDD would have new bad sectors every few weeks. I didn't replace the disk earlier because I wasn't gaming too often on it and was hoping that the disk would last long enough for me to replace it if/when I started gaming again... but nope.

Cat is telling you to just buy a new disk and start playing with her.

Use HD Tune (I love this program). Do a full Error Scan of it. Screenshot the results if you like. Any red areas means the disk is probably junk and honestly should just be smashed with a hammer and put out of its misery.

BUT if you want to try and salvage it (never put anything you don't want to lose on it), here is what I recommend. Use CCleaner to wipe the drive. It'll overwrite the whole drive. This may force the drive to remap some of the bad sectors. Do another scan with HD Tune after. See if the red blocks disappear. It might be fine after that, but I'd still be wary. If it's any worse (still red blocks or more errors than before), cut your loss and chuck the drive.

A couple of remapped sectors is OK and the drive is designed to be able to withstand some. I still don't trust them after they begin to appear, though.
