Who is "VideoCD" since his watermark is on the picture.. Is that white one a custom paintjob? Looks like it what with the buttons still being grey.
Nope, the white SCPH-5903 has a VideoCD board inside, and plays VideoCD discs. Original from Sony. Only released in Asia. ConsoleFun
Ah interesting It reminded me of when I used to paint ps1's heh. I could never get the buttons to take the paint right so I just ended up leaving them normal on most. Unfortunatley the paint isnt holding too well after all these years.
Woops, looks like that ISNT a watermark but its actually on the Video CD PSX http://www.zonadepruebas.com/foro/imagenes/5903_7.jpg
Gamars VCD card I actually use my small SCPH-102C for VCD playback. This board was quite some hassel to install. The instructions start with "Step1: Take off FB401, FB402, FB502 parts". These are three surface mounted resistors, that you need to desolder to route the composite video and stereo audio lines through the VCD card. The card piggybacks on the ROM chip (IC 102) to interface with the system bus Regards.. ConsoleFun
oldengineer, i am ashamed, assembler himself had a page on the ps1 vcd at http://assembler.roarvgm.com/VCD_PSX/vcd_psx.html though i guess the old assembler doesnt get alot of hits anymore
The N-PAL "PAL Booster" The four colorful units in my first post are all NTSC. It was my understanding that it was hard to convert the video signal from NTSC to PAL for these units. The reason being that they use the CXA1645 RGB encoder. The PAL color signal (chroma) would be at the NTSC frequency, but the big problem here is that this encoder sends the color signal through an internal band pass filter to eliminate higher harmonic components. So, if you have an external video system converter, no color information would reach it as far as I understand. Therefore I just had to buy the "PAL Booster" NTSC to PAL converter from Lik-Sang: http://www.lik-sang.com/image.php?category=15&products_id=134&img=ps-palbooster When I popped it open, this is what I saw: Another CXA1645! This is not a NTSC to PAL encoder. It's a RGB to PAL encoder. Nice to know... Regards.. ConsoleFun
I apologize for my last two posts being off topic. I might post more pictures from my video gaming collection later. Just wanted to show you guys these PCB scans, which I find quite interesting, while I was at it. But I realize it's the wrong thread. Sorry. Oh well.. ConsoleFun
erm dont double post use the edit button. Dont see a problem with your last two posts they are fine here. Its in your collection and your explaning to people what it is. Its all cool!
