    Hi All,
So I want to hook up some older machines (VCS, Dragon 32, Vic 20) that generally only have RF out (without a mod), I don't really want to have an old big VCR/DVD player in so is there such a thing as a small DVD/VCR player that has a good manual tune RF in and Scart out?

    Regards

PS. I did searched and din't find much except comments about Set Top boxes.!

You need a demodulator. My American VCR has one built-in. It takes the RF coax in and converts it to Composite video.

I've seen some NTSC/ATSC demodulators on eBay for about $100 but they use standard RCA jacks for the output, meaning you would need to use an RCA to SCART adapter. If you need it for PAL setups, there is this device on amazon.com (if it doesn't have a PAL RF connector, select the second style). It converts RF to HDMI and can take both PAL and NTSC RF signals over a PAL RF connector.

On the VIC-20, the DIN connector for the RF modulator supports composite video and mono audio so no need to use RF. Just get the proper AV cable. On the Dragon 32, the Monitor port outputs composite video so like the VIC-20, just get the proper AV cable, no need for RF.

pauljh, if you go with this one that LeHaM suggested, you will need a composite video to SCART adaptor. They are dirt cheap.

So this one converts Composite video and RF to VGA? That means pauljh would have to use an RGBHV to RGBS sync combiner with an RGB-compatible SCART TV or a VGA monitor. If it would ship to the USA, I would consider buying it.

Or a $15 VGA to HDMI adapter or spend a little more and go with a VGA to HDMI upscaler

    Or that too....

I was talking as if he wanted to stay with SCART. Although, there isn't a reason to stick with SCART if VGA to HDMI converters/upscalers are an option.

VIC-20 has an a/v port. Dragon 32 has a composite monitor port. Save your money and use them.
