I have some old devices which support only Smart Media Cards as a storage medium. Unfortunately some of my Smart Media Cards become corrupted in the last years. Therefore I would like to use a more reliable storage medium, for example SD-Cards or Compact Flash Cards. There are a lot of adapters for SD or CF cards available. So I googled for an SD-to-Smart Media adapter. However I haven't found anything. But I found an Smart Media-to-xD Card adapter: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270629403968 And an xD Card-to-MicroSD adapter: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260610191236 Does anyone know if I can combine these adapters? Smart Media Card Adapter -> xD Picture Card Adapter -> Micro SD Card Furthermore I'd be happy if someone knows a solution which does work with less adapters ;-)
It sounds like your old smart media hit their write limits. I would buy quality new old stock smart media. The stream of adapters you showed should work, just make sure the contact is good so you don't get any data corruption due to contact issues.
Should be able to fix them with a low level format and the right software:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SmartMedia#Format_errors_.26_data_loss
I already tried that. But it doesn't work neither with USB card readers nor with PCMCIA card readers. I assume you need a special driver for it or one of these Smart Media Floppy adapters: http://cgi.ebay.com/FlashPath-Smart...720?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230a2d94c0
I've just noticed that this doesn't work because according to Wikipedia the xD to Micro SD adapter is just mechanical. The device has to support the SD card protocol. So this adapter is only compatible with a handful of cameras.
