Would this help get Japanese carts working with pin adapter? The idea has a brief mention here, but it's been a decade since then (2001) and I haven't heard of any attempts.
I have the Boot Loader BIOS installed in my American SMS and it works great! Console5 sells them and you get one here: http://console5.com/store/kits/bios-kits/sega-master-system-sms-boot-loader.html Yes, it should. The Boot Loader BIOS will allow you to play Japanese My Card games so it's safe to say Japanese carts will work with the proper adapter. However, there's no point in making the adapter unless you do the BIOS mod first so that's why you don't see anyone making them (yet).
lol a friend of mine wanted to play Japanese games but not lose his precious maze game so I just hacked the loader inside the BIOS. I copied the loader/boot program from the Japanese BootTROM which plays Space Harrier song and put on the original non built in game US SMS BootROM. Works great.
The jury is still out. I've tried to keep some humility by not acting like no one on Earth has successfully created such an adapter. Without proof of that, I decided to only call my idea a prototype as long as I fail to obtain said proof.
The Boot Loader BIOS was only recently made available on Console5 and I haven't heard of any proof of anyone creating an adapter either. However, it's really much more practical to play American/European games on a Japanese system as there are at least two converters for that purpose (ToToTEK sells one which is also the one I use) and you don't need to perform any mods. Plus if you use one with the Japanese SMS you also have the added perks of a built-in FM unit and 3-D glasses jack. The Master Everdrive is also more practical since there aren't too many Japanese exclusives and you can play every SG-1000 title that way too.
I own an adapter to use Japanese carts on an American SMS using the expansion port. Nothing new. And burning that Boot Loader to an EPROM is no problem for me as well.
Oh? At this point seems like an April Fools prank to hear that. I guess a difference between the expansion port and cartridge slot could be to blame. My idea was focused on the latter.
MARKIII lacks the hardware to handle multiple "slots" so no it won't work unless you add some hardware. Also kind of pointless. If you want to play the snail game, make a cartridge with the BIOS using one of the hacked images that let you play the snail game.
