Hello everybody, I installed a 50/60HZ Switch in my PAL-SNES (Couldn't do the Lockout Disable, B-Version), and now I get a PAL60 image. Does anybody know if I could my SNES to output NTSC? I ask this because my Display Device does not recognize PAL over S-Video, lacks RGB and the Composite looks like yesterdays RF-output. Thanks for your suggestions and advise in advance.
I don't have a TV, and my only alternatives, VGA-Box and TV-Card, lack PAL-60 Support, so the switch would be pointless, or all my gaming in greyscale with some wrong colours in it.
I believe that that it's not possible to do a simple NTSC mod on a SNES due to the way composite video is encoded. Unlike other machines which have a common Sony video encoder. The easiest method would be to buy a Super Famicom and convert that to 50/60Hz and region free mod. Your alternatives are to use convertors. a PAL-60 to NTSC convertor would look bad. So an RGB SCART to Component or S-Video would be your best bet.
IIRC SNES do have Sony video encoders. One thing to consider is that if the TV doesn't like PAL60, will it like NTSC50? A solution would be to use a switch to to flip the SNES/encoders NTSC/PAL signal and complete the circuit of one of the colorburst crystals (put in parallel).
OT: my understanding is PAL 60 is basically tNTSC with he PAL colour coding. It's just that some TV have no problem with PAL 60 whereas other TV don't like it...
The problem is not that it can't display PAL60, it's because it can't display PAL-Colours over S-Video, why, I don't know. And my alternative, a TV-Card in my PC, is too old for PAL60, that's why this question. My beamer won't have problems with NTSC50, but my TV-Card will. How hard is it to get S-Video from RGB? I don't have a RGB-SCART-capable TV or monitor. How difficult would it be to get S-Video out of RGB? Or convert the Colour-Carrier to NTSC? After thinking about it, it will be difficult to get NTSC or PAL out of an RGB source without proper Hardware, maybe VGA would be easier, right?
You could replace the crystal(s) (its either 1 or 2, can't remember... assuming a SNES has an external crystal!), but TBH your best bet is buying a cheap TV or an old Commodore monitor. Or a Japanese Super Famicom ;-) Do yourself a favour and get a TV or monitor with RGB!! You won't regret it!
