i got a snes and was just wondering if there was a general cable used for somthing that i could use as the ac adaptor for the snes. i was also wondering if a ps2 av cable would work for the snes
I don't think so, the PS2 slim power supply outputs a completely different voltage and amperage (8.5V @ 5.65A the SNES uses 9V @ 1.2mA)
i got a 9v 0.8 amp max ac adaptor and plugged it in the light came on and tryed it with a ps2 av cable it did fit but there was no signal i think it was the ps2 av cable not working i got a game cube av cable of ebay and hoping that works with the 9v adaptor but i would like to know if it could work with the adaptor being 0.8 amps
SNES, N64 and Gamecube use the same type of AV cables with the MultiAV plug at the end that goes into the console. The Playstation AV cable will not fit. As a power supply you can savely use anything that has between 7 and 12V DC with around 1A or more. The SNES will get very hot with a 12V supply though, so ideally you would use a 9V one. The reason you can use such a wide variety of different voltages is that the external power supply on the SNES just feeds an 7805 voltage regulator which then provides the needed 5V to the SNES.
im new and i dont think my reply went through so i will do it again just shorter. i got a 9v ac adapter but its only 0.8 max amp but when i plug it in the red light comes on so i think its enough and i tryed with the ps2 av cable it did fit but the tv had no signal i think it was because the ps2 av cable doesn't work with the snes but it might be because the the adapter was only 0.8 amps idk let me know what you think. and also do you know any wedsite were you can get cheep snes games
Have you already heard about the Super Everdrive? Basicly it's one cartridge that can play all the SNES games and it's only $80 0.8A should be enough. You need a game plugged into the SNES for it to show any picture. Also the big port to the left is the AV port, the smaller one is the antenna port. Then comes the antenna switch and the power supply input jack.
yeah i had the game in but the ps2 av probs wont work. and no i havnt heard about the super everdrive i will check it out thanks.
i also just saw a thing on the bottom you can pull of which said exit and when you take it of theres another thingy for a cable and what do you need the antena for?
Ok, let's clear a few things up for you. You need to try and get a power adapter that's at least 1A, at anywhere between 7-12V DC. Try for a 9V 1A power supply. If you're in the US go to Radio Shack or order one from somewhere like Amazon. 0.8A may work, but you may run into issues. As for the Everdrive - It's a cartridge that allows you to put ROMs on it and play them. It doesn't have 100% compatibility but it's pretty good. SNES games are cheap if you look around, try Goodwill or local second-hand shops. The Everdrive itself does not come with any games. Don't ask about where to get ROMs. The EXT port on the bottom is an expansion slot. In the US, it wasn't used for much of anything. In Japan they had a device called the Satellaview. It, in conjunction with a special cartridge, would allow you to download games from a satellite. The service is long defunct. In short, don't worry about the EXT port. You have to get the proper AV cable, as others have said SNES, N64, and Gamecube use the same one. Those are the ONLY ones that are compatible. Your PS2 cable WILL NOT WORK. The RF or Antenna jack is for hooking your console up to a TV through the cable jack on the back. If you have an LCD screen it won't look too good. Try to use a CRT (Tube) TV if possible. Good luck!
for the super everdrive, which games run well depends mainly on your console. 60hz systems will play both usa and japan roms (technically the same format for snes). certain pal games work if they're OK with the speed difference and don't block it. 50hz systems are best to use european roms. In usa/japan the multiAV has three versions. It always supports composite. original snes 1 had rgb (that kind popular in europe) and s-video too. n64 or gamecube removed rgb. snes mini is only composite.
