Mini SNES is lacking RGB. I don't think composite/Svideo is any different between the consoles. I'd stick with the original.
From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the mini SNES wins hands-down! Then again, anything is an improvement over the original SNES casing that we American gamers got. What a monstrocity that was especially given the fact that the Japanese Super Famicom had such a simple and appealing design. :angry
the mini snes (or snes 2) only have the svideo-out , wich was (imo) a great move from nintendo, because the console came with the s-video cord out of the box, unlike the first snes model wich came with a rgb cable and you needed to buy the s-video separatly. For the look of the console, i would go with the snes 2 too. On the other side, if you have any old tv in your house you would probally put your console on, then go for the first model. Another argument for the first model is that it's usually cheaper. no mather what your choice is, it won't be wrong. ;-) (i personnally own the first model, but i would like to have the second one for collecting purpose...and because its cutier. :-D )
I actually like the one model aesthetically, I don't think the Super Famicom is more beautiful in design, IMO I don't think it's simplistic either, it might even have too much going on. I think the SNES and red Famicom make a nice pair as do the NES / SFC.
They made the surface of the American SNES all uneven like that on purpose becasue the #1 reason that people broke thier NES was by spilling drinks on it ( setting a soda down on the console.) So they made it all ugly like that to discourage billy bob from putting his bottle of fanata on it. Damn rednecks ruin everything.
I'm pretty sure my mini SNES just has an "output port", the exact same port found on both the N64 and the Gamecube.....I'm pretty sure I've just plugged an N64 composite cable in there and it worked fine. It is a slick little system. <----Kicking himself for having sold his NIB SFC Jr.... :angry
That still didn't save my friend's SNES from his sister's Taco Bell lemonade. She poured it on the system while he was playing Top Gun. :smt042 He tells me about it a lot. I think he's scarred for life. That and the story where his Genesis started smoking... :smt043
What are you, a crack addict? The SNES 2 does NOT do S-video OR RGB. Composite and RF are all you get.
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/videogamesdepo/audsvidnewsu.html Pins 7-8 of the Nintendo multi-out thingie are Y and C, so theoretically at least S-video should be supported, although those pins could be for S-VHS. Not sure how the compatibility goes as I know nothing of S-VHS.
Er, S-VHS is just another name for S-video in this kind of situation. I like to call it the "wrong" way :-D. It's also sometimes called Y/C.
NFG, as usual, is correct. The SNES2 does NOT do svideo or RGB (though it can be modded for the latter). For that matter it doesn't do RF either. It does only composite out of the box. The original SNES does all of those things. They both use the same multiout jack, but not all signals are present on the SNES2.
As always, thanks to GamesX for being damn clever - http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/snes2rgb.htm But you can't get Svideo atm - http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/snes2svid.htm But if you have RGB scart, you shouldn't be using SVideo anyways. Hope this helps, and good luck.
And my apologies for the appalling pictures and nonsensical diagrams. In my defense it's seven years old, that page, and... Maybe I was, you know, on crack or something.
