So, I got a really falling apart SNES with the intention of replacing the top shell and reselling it (the system works fine). Unfortunately, the bottom wouldn't give up the screws and started breaking as I unscrewed it. As an aside, that has to be the crummiest plastic I've seen, it literally broke off in my hands. So, I looked on eBay and got a bottom shell. When I tried replacing it, I found out it was a different mold, made for the updated SNES board (with the sound chip soldered on as opposed to separate). So my question is, how can I remove the middle ridge to make the board fit properly in the shell without damaging the shell?
The case is pretty brittle. You can cut the ridge down with a sideways box cutter. Dremel puts out too much heat, and cuts way too fast. Plus you can't get shallow enough angle to make it flat. Sideways box cutter, and patience.
I'll try the box cutter, thanks! I just didn't want to go gung-ho on the thing and have it snap in half on me.
