I think that most (or all) details of this document are known already. Found at http://1morecastle.com/2014/03/snes-cd-documentation/ PDF: https://mega.co.nz/#!tshXjZyQ!XtCpCyvjvqRHHJVv4hWKMCM5vP5GEmiaWU1MRbNAXiU
Yeah I'm sure this has turned up before. It's not the Play Station, which is all I'm really interested in. From the cpu specs I'm guessing it's SuperFX based.
You're probably right about the processor. The date and cd-i specs make me think that this document was written in the Nintendo/Phillips era. So yeah, its not the Play Station. edit: source of this document seems to be Steve_Lin. more to come? https://twitter.com/stevenplin/status/434381829982801920/photo/1
Ew. So If that was to have released sony probably would of never continued in the market since it would of failed, if it was anything like the god-awful CDI of course.
Sony were pretty much committed by the time this document was written. I believe the target boxes were already out at developers. As soon as Nintendo realised the strength of the competition they cancelled the project and jumped to the N64. Sega took the alternative approach of upgrading the Saturn for 3D.
Steve seems to have some pretty interesting items! I for one await his other releases with eager anticipation. Thanks for sharing!
I glad Sony shot this down and move on making the own greatest console ever made. Otherwise Without Playstation, I wouldn't be here as a gamer Long live Playstation!
Sony had already moved on, the Nintendo/Sony "Play Station" partnership was dissolved in 1991. This is a manual for one of the later projects to bring CD games to the SNES, which appears to be a SuperFX CPU and a CD drive. While Sony were working on the PlayStation in secret, they were also trying to partner with Nintendo so they could keep track of them & make some money in the process. I don't know whether Sony had any involvement in this SNES-CD though.
