I bought an SNES and when I try to play Street Fighter 2, the "Licensed by Nintendo" screen comes up then it goes black and nothing happens. This is the only game I have but it works on 3 other SNES I have. I've done the obvious such as cleaning the game and cartridge slot. No capacitors looks obvious blown and the Red LED comes on so the fuse isn't blown, though I doubt the game would boot if it was. I'm thinking about disabling the lockout chip possibly. That fixed my NES that wouldn't boot.

I disassembled it again and now it doesn't even turn on. I guess I blew the fuse.

I replaced the fuse with a wire for now and it turns on again, same issue.

I bought Madden for $1 at a store and it just gives me a black screen. I can't find any solution for this. I put a working connector into it and it still doesn't boot.

Replacing the fuse with a wire isn't going to do you any favours. Part of the fault your console is having is likely causing a fuse to blow. When it occurs a second time, which it will, if it hasn't already, you're going to lose more than a fuse.

It wasn't the fuse at first, the power cable has a short.

So far I've redone the fuse, disabled the lockout chip, desoldered the reset button, swapped connectors with a working one, cleaned it with alcohol. Nothing is working. I just get a black screen and a red light now.

I can't edit posts on my phone so forgive me.

I tried this and there were crackling sounds and the room smelled of burnt rubber. If the SNES wasn't fried before, it is now. It doesn't turn on at all.

    1: Obtain voltmeter
2: Connect negative voltmeter lead to perimeter ground of circuitboard
3: Set voltage range to 20v
    4: Turn SNES on
5: Touch positive lead to leftmost pin - should be around 9V
6: Touch positive lead to rightmost pin - should be 5V
    7: Post results

I know what I did and it's embarrassing but the leads were switched.

SF2 shows "Licensed By Nintendo" before doing sound hardware init. I bet you have a problem with the sound CPU or sound DSP/ sound RAMs...

The games were coded in a way they can't run without the sound hardware working correctly.

Edit: Japanese version does not show anything but only Capcom logo... Just mentioning ...
