I have an SNES, the original US model, and it was working fine until a few years ago, when it suddenly ceased to boot. When I flip the power switch, the screen flickers like it normally does when you turn it on, and the power light is on, but nothing appears on the screen - it's just black. I've tried several games, and none of them will load. Any idea what could be wrong with it? I have another SNES, an SNES 2, but it doesn't have RGB output.
I'd start here: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/snes-fuse.htm Though IIRC a blown fuse typically comes with the power light not lighting at all.
So the original model can be considered dead? I have one (albeit PAL) with the same problem. It's not a blown fuse, already checked that. The power light goes on, my TV even recognizes there's a signal coming in, then shows nothing but black... I'm thinking about just gutting it and repurposing its shell for a HTPC unless there's a quick way to save it.
Try what I did...replaced 2 parts & it started working again: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?37824-SNES-Problem-powering-up Didn't work straight away, but I've been told the big cap might have needed to be power-cycled a few times to be "conditioned".
