Hi guys, I am running the snes through my A/V receiver which is sending it out via hdmi to my hdtv.

My dreamcast and even the nes seem to come through centered but the snes picture is way over on the left leaving a black bar on the right. Anyone know of any tricks or mods that can help center this picture?

I guess your using a RGB cable on the snes. If it using the VSync rather than Comp Sync you'll get the shift.
Its Vertical sync timing is advanced.

What kind of display are you using? What type of output are you using from the SNES?

composite out to onkyo TX-SR608 AV receiver and then out via HDMI to the TV

Dreamcast and even NES in same scenario is perfectly centered but the snes picture is over to the side? fwiw it does appear to be rendering the whole image judging by the Super Mario start screen

What kind of TV? An LCD or Plasma I'm assuming? Some TVs have an option buried in the menus that allows you to adjust the size and position of the image. There are scalers and other kinds of video processors that will allow you to do that as well.

As far as why it's doing it, I'd guess that either the receiver or the TV are underscanning the image - so you're seeing part of the image that isn't meant to be seen. There might be an option for overscan or underscan, but I doubt it, unless it's a professional video monitor. You might also try connecting the SNES directly to the TV rather than going through the receiver, if your TV has a composite input.

The US SNES and Japanese SFC do seem to have the picture shifted to the left much more thent he PAL models.

Try an official Nintendo RGB cable, they use C-video as sync and all should be centered.
Or buy a scaler and adjust the image there.
Or build a RGB shifter: http://playoffline.wordpress.com/cable/rgbshifter/ (sry didnt find a link in english, but you can use google translate)
