what you guys think about the snes powerpak ?? anyone here owns one ? wanted to buy one today but too late ;(
Apparently there is a compatibility problem which I think is why you can't order one at the moment. I'm pretty sure the SNES PowerPAK should be awesome. The NES PowerPAK is one of my favorite items. Certainly a great investment at $135 for a NES gamer. There is alot more competition in the SNES arena though as Bung and other makers created huge numbers of many different copier models. You can find a nice SNES copier for half the price of the SNES PowerPAK but it won't be as user friendly.
It says the SNES PowerPak works on clones, while the NES PowerPak doesn't. Is there a reason for that? Are SNES clones just cloned better?
Come on, there is only about 25-30 games out of a library of over 1500 (counting Japanese games) are not compatible. This thing is freaking awesome.
Yeah, it just so happens that the games I would want to play most, aren't supported. Ex. Star ocean, Super Mario Rpg, Star fox, Gundam games, etc. It's still a consideration though. When I get the money i'll seriously think about it. Being able to play some games on the real deal finally would be nice. Especially games that are Translated from Japanese.
with the current $ exchange ratio its actually a VERY good price for me.. whenever this is available again i ll grab one asap
Screw the guy that sells em... he should take a loss and go out of business just cause we want cheaper stuff.. I think lots of people have been spoiled by cheap chinese shit, they expect everything to be mass produced and cost reduced to bits. This whole operation is run by a single guy who builds them himself.
If he builds them himself then fine he can ask what he wishes, but me for one will not spend 100+ that much on something like this. If that is a realistic price then i'm just a cheap basterd cheers
Even I don't think is that expensive. I think it's actually a great price for something like this, and it looks very well produced as well. I would consider getting a NesPP as well.
Very few games don't work. The games that don't work are those which have additional hardware inside them like the SA-1 or Super FX. The number of games that won't work is very small compared to all that will function fine. Ofcourse there are notable titles in the handful that won't work. But I hardly see that as reason to pass on the product. Of all the similar products to the SNES PowerPAK, it has some nice advantages over them. #1 is the use of a Compact Flash memory card for storage. This is way better than using floppies and easier to use than parallel PC links or CD-ROM/Hard Drive/ZIP add-ons for other devices. #2 it has alot of memory, more than most as it has 128 megabits. This also means the Star Ocean hack that uses decompressed graphics will work. #3 no secondary power adapter is needed unlike most other devices. #4 multi rom format support should make it easier to use as many devices require or don't always work right without converting the rom to the correct format. By the way, the price is not unreasonable. You should remember this isn't a huge pirate production like Nintendo DS and GBA devices where thousands or even millions of units are made. Plus there are R&D costs. Even if you compare this to the huge pirate productions of similar SNES products from back in the day it is still a competitive offering when you compare all the features and the cost. You could get a similar old school device fairly cheap but it would not have all the features and be as user friendly. If you want to buy something comparable you are going to end up in the same price range or maybe even beyond. Forinstance Super Wild Card DX2 with the Disk Dual is easily going to top $125... easily. Just the SWC DX2 by itself will probably fetch that much. Really do your own research and I think you'll see the SNES PowerPAK is a competitive product at a fair price. I bought a NES PowerPAK which was $135. While the situation is alittle different since there is basically no competition in that field the price again is pretty fair for what it is and does. I know I've gotten my money's worth out of my PowerPAK for NES. I want to get the SNES one when any problems that exist are resolved. It will likely replace my current old school copier made by the Bung Company from the days of the SNES.
Yeah. I see no reason to say the price is bad. The alternatives are far less convenient, much larger, much slower, between less to equal compatibility and more annoying to get a hold of and with much less potential future support as far as compatibility and hardware updates goes. I hope to be able to grab one of these sometime in the future (maybe even two, depending on how the PAL/NTSC compatibility is handled) I love my NES PowerPak, although I'm not the main user of it. My little brother has been (ab)using that one several times weekly for the past year++ (and my NES collection is very happy about that) and the mapper updates on it are a very nice touch. And, yes, for those who are not followers of the USD, that price is extremely nice when considering the low exchange rate of the USD these days.
If people are so unhappy about the price, just get a Copier and be done with it. Different strokes for different folks.
