    Hi,

i try first steps on building a SNES repro. First i use a willem PCB50 programmer with M27C801-120F1 Eproms.
I successfull install the programmer on win98SE. The programming software show anything is ok (Hardware present) I change the dip switches and jumper shown in the software and load the bin file.
After writing the rom i got an "Error at 0x004515" and sometimes " Error at 0x01B105".
My research on the web shows no information about it.
    Can anyone help please?

Try using windows xp. there is no need to be back using 98.

(and I have had success with old para willems and winxp, no experience in 9x)

Also, what version of the willem software and what voltage & amperage is the PSU you are using.

Also try different parallel port modes in your bios and try again

I will give it a try. I use win98se because my newer desktop has no parallel port. Will buy an adapter...
I use voltage over usb, and the latest software from Sivava.

Use a power supply, rather than USB voltage.

Also, USB to para adapters are unlikely to work. Maybe dual boot xp and 98 or put in another hard drive and install xp for testing

Another question, i have an large dev board. Is it possible to burn a rom on eproms and use it with the devboard for a quick test?
Or do i need some kind of special header or something. Im not sure its the same way using it on retail pcb.
What i do for the repro is take the rom, split it to 8mbits with snes tool and remove any header form the splitted files.

dev board should work and easier than a repro too - as they sockets are wired for JEDEC pinout (which the eproms use) rather than the non standard pinout of retail maskroms.

That said, I have never owned a dev board.

Also, remove header first then split. I dont think splitting first would work right.

if the old computer your using can't run xp try windows 2000 it's 100% better than 98. as the computer that controls my willem has only 64mb memory

OK i run now win2000 pro sp4 but still got the errors after writing the eprom. UserPort running fine. Has it maybe anything to to with the "ICSP" jumper ports? At the mom no jumper set.

What software version are you running (and no, "the latest" isnt a valid answer)

    Try using 0.97ja

If memory serves the 0.98Dxxx versions only work on PCB4.5

Changed the version but no ...
The programmer still write anything than with the verify i got error at 0x000000. Maybe i do something wrong with the rom? I use SNESTool 1.2 . I split the rom and delete the header. Nothing more i have to do ?
Do you use any special offset? Different Shift & Pattern adr? "Skip Write 0xFF" ?

If the rom is wrong, you should still be able to write the incorrect data to the eprom and it verify just fine - it just wouldnt work in the snes.

The programmer has no idea that its a snes rom - so it shouldnt be anything to do with that.

Have you tried changing the mode of your parallel port in the bios (SPP, EPP, ECP)

It could be that you've got a dodgy clone. Or as bad_ad says, it might be your parallel port, I've got a load of old PCs that I tried getting a GBA cable working with, I thought it was a dodgy cable because it just wouldn't work on any of them, so I tried the one with the online schematics and a PIC16F84A, same result... But lo and behold an old compaq deskpro, tried that and they both worked on it flawlessly!

    Thats another point...

Is this a desktop or a laptop?

Laptop para ports seem to suck for this type of thing. I (used to) an admin at sbhacker - people used to build para jtag cables and always had issues on laptops with read/writing.

    First, thanks for your help.
I use a Asus P2B desktop. I switched now my serial ports to disable and try on parralel side "normal" (i think its SPP) than EPP, EPP+ECP (LTP1 @ 0x378). Thats all option my bios had. Same results...
Can someone post an screenshot of the Willem software screen running to programm? Maybe i had a bad configuration...

Strange, i never seen this picture. I set the jp1 jumper like your picture, but the same problem, WTF...

edit: I also try to connect the Willem directly to the pc port. Same shit. So i don't think the cable is the problem.
