Another topic related to cables, hopefully I get a response this time :)

I have a third party composite, svideo cable for Dreamcast, Snes/N64 and PS2

The usual stuff, it was too bright so I soldered 75 ohm resistors on Composite video and S-Video (this was years ago) I still never used the S-Video because of the terrible cross bar effect.

Is there a way to fix this somehow? I've done some tests last night on my 1CHIP and another model which has got a SuperCIC mod. Strangely enough when set to 60hz the crosshatch is almost completely gone. I can still see it when there's fast movement but so much better.

I am thinking about getting the Scart cable with csync on Luma, is that what's recommended for PAL N64 and Snes but if there's anything I can do in the mean time I'm all ears?

Are your s video cables wired correctly?

Do you happen to have a diagram that i could refer to so I can check with a multimeter?

I've made some progress so I thought I share.
First of all, I've read an old thread here where a forum member had the same issue and he fixed it by desoldering the Composite Video wire however that didn't work for me, it was still present.
Then I thought fuck it, I'm going to scrap the cable but keep the multi av end and use a shielded S-Video cable
Soldered the four wires to the Multi AV
    Luma - PIN 7
    Chroma PIN 8
    Luma GND - PIN 5
    Chroma GND - PIN 5
    S-Video shield - PIN 6
I wouldn't mind a confirmation whether I've wired this correctly (the GND connections) but the cross hatch is completely gone!!

I haven't had time to solder in the two RCA audio connectors and whether this will cause any issues. RCA cables tip is the analogue signal and outer circle is supposed to be ground?

So far the cause of the cross hatch points to the shared GND connection between S-Video and Composite. Will update once I add sound.

Seems to be okay after adding the left and right audio. I was hoping I could use it with a PAL N64 too but the picture appears to be too bright

For the PAL cable you need to have two 75ohm resistor to GND - one for Luma and one for Chroma - preferably in the TVs end.

Thanks borti4938. Originally the cable had only one resistor connected to Luma only and it wasn’t 75. Will add both in when I get a chance. Appreciate the help

I've added both, the picture quality is pretty good actually. Thanks.
Could I use the same cable for a PAL N64?

Pal N64 doesn't support s-video. It's composite only without mods.

    Earlier PAL models output S-Video.
