I got an SNES mini here i bough last year. When i boot up any game the picture kind of shimmys left to right slightly. Mostly at the top of the screen. This is on a CRT and with an official PSU. Everybody and everywhere i have asked has no idea what it might be. I have opened it up and looked at the caps and they all appear fine. Though i am aware that they can look fine and not be. I would really like to fix this instead of tossing it.

    Appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks :D

What method of connecting to TV are you using? RF, composhite, RGB, magic?!?
Is the TV the same region as your console (excludes RGB)
Could be a ground issue, I'd tack some wires off the composite pin and ground on the underside of the AV jack..

    Tried another TV?

Let us know what troubleshooting you has done :)

    Composhite. Same region.

I have actually tried a ground thing. I attached (held) a wire from the SNES's shielding to the TV av jack.

I don't have another CRT. But the one i am using works fine with about 10 other consoles. I haven't tried it on any of my LCDs.

I should mention that is doesn't always do it. Like 1% of the time it looks fine. Example.. I booted it up to show somebody yesterday and it didn't do it for about 5 mins. Switched it off and when I tried again and it started happening again.

That COULD be caps, warm the board up and see if the problem goes away temporally

I tried that last year. Let it run for ages.. never went away :(
Sorry i keep forgetting to mention what troubleshooting have done lol. I forgot i did that. That is the extent of everything i have tried.
Only thing i can think of is buying another power brick. But i don't really want to spend the money on one (they are absurdly expensive) with no guarantee it will even do anything to fix the problem :(

You really should try it on another TV. It could be a syncing issue with that CRT. Also, try a different cable. The cables are a lot cheaper than a new PSU.

As Atomizer said, could be a syncing issue between the CRT not liking your console. When I was living with mumzy and we were on the struggle bus she had a super old CRT TV (like with the wood finish and everything) which didn't play nicely at all with my PS1. Same issue you mentioned - Shaky and jittery.

When I got a 360 I thought the same thing would happen, hooked it up in composite and it handled it fine. Out of my 360, our DVD players, and the PS1 it was only the PS1 that had issues with that TV.

I just tried with the official cables from my AV Famicom and then with some off brand AV cables. Same thing. I don't have another CRT. I have had this CRT for about 10 years and never had a problem with a single device on it. I will test on an LCD tonight but even if it works OK on that id never play a 240p console on an LCD VIA composite :/
