So I own a super 8 and it's fun to mess around with. I decided to add a 1000 uf cap to the blank spot on the board to get rid of those annoying jail bars when playing famicom or nes games. The only problem is when I added it (1000uf, 35v) it just gives me a black rolling screen (no menu at startup but it will boot snes games with rolling graphics). So what went wrong? Did I just get a dud cap or something? Seems like this mod is too easy to mess up.

You may have it reversed, this would probably damage the electrolytic cap cause it to go high resistance. Have a look a the top and see if it bloated or popped.
make sure you have the negative side connected correctly.

I'm pretty sure it isn't reversed. The cap has a band for the negative side. Also, the cap looks perfectly fine to me (I actually tried it in reverse just to see if i was doing something wrong after it failed to work the first few tries). I guess I'll try another cap because the unit works fine if it isn't soldered to the board.

Maybe a non polarized cap is what you need

That might be it. I think I remember seeing a video where the guy had an non-polarized axial cap soldered in place.

You will not get a 1000uf in non polorised.
