[SNES] Super Probotector NTSC-U sample

Sample carts aren't just interesting in my own mind. They're interesting in the minds of a couple other guys, too. Take this sample of Super Probotector for SNES. It's a PAL game that was put on a North American cartridge and it works without hassle. Some of you guys might remember or came across a few threads where copies of this were shown. The label had erroneously written on it "SUPERP ROBOTECTOR". Well probably the most notable thing about it is that that not all copies have the same ROM, which I found out the rather expensive way.

There are at least 2 variants out there. One of them is identical to the final. The other has some cheats enabled, out of sync attract demos and the game freezing on the (second-to) last boss. The third thing I had it verified on multiple copies of this variant, so it's not caused by things like a bad ROM dump or bit rot. It was intentionally modified that way by Konami. You know, for a sample they sure did provide a generous amount of the game to play. Reminds me of Doom.

A PAL game on an NTSC-U cart isn't at all surprising these days, as there are many examples of it and of the opposite. There's in fact a Japanese cart holding Super Probotector as well. But as said before, why different versions are found on the same type of cart?
