Hello, I'm trying to fix a SNES Super Scope. Here's the situation: No response: Mashing the buttons, pointing right at the sensor, nothing works. The game does not register a button press at all. Has power: I put in the batteries and used my camera phone's IR filter to see the 3 IR LEDs flash on button presses. Power, start, and cursor buttons all light up. No idea if the brightness or timing of the LEDs are within spec. I have not disassembled the gun to inspect for damage. Controller sensor board looks fine: I disassembled the sensor and popped off the RF shielding. All of the solder points look solid, no lifted pads, no leaky caps, etc. I haven't probed for power yet. Does the sensor have the same pinout as a regular controller? There are six wires: blue, white, yellow, orange, red, and brown. From my research, on of these appears the be extra. My thinking is since the IR LEDs fire that there's no corrosion or anything wrong with the power. The LEDs could be too dim, or the timing could be off, but I have no way to know or test that. The problem may lie in the sensor controller. Maybe the sensor itself has gone bad? I am testing this on a CRT TV. I do not have a working Super Scope to compare. SNES and game are in working order. Thank you!
Obvious things first: It's plugged in the correct port, which would be the second one? And yes it's the same pinout. Not sure if it uses the two extra pins, but probably not.
... Well... that "fixed" it... I blame the person who said it was broken. Yeah, totally their fault. Not my fault for not doing basic research... Thank you all the same!
