Hey guys! I've been searching everywhere for an answer and no luck so far. I'm getting strange Vertical Lines that show up only on certain elements on my SNES. For example, part of the bg hills in super mario world. You can see examples and the internals at the line below: https://goo.gl/photos/a1RFPZ15weqMdbVZ7 Different games and cables still have the issues. Pulled the whole console apart and everything looks normal and clear. There does not appear to be any traces broken. The brown discoloration around certain areas I cleaned up with 91% isopropyl alcohol, thought maybe it was cause by a leaky cap but it could be flux? Any help would be greatly appreciated? I originally sought out help on another forum but haven't found a solution. Thanks!
Looks like a damaged IC. It could be a PPU chip, the RAMs or even the CPU. If you have a heat gun, try heating those chips while a game runs. Often you can determine which one is bad by the glitches changing as it heats up. Don't fry them though!
Rather than heating with a head gun, it would be safer and better to use gentle tapping ( I use a popsivle stick! ) on the suspicious IC while the game is running. this will help you locate cold solder joint you can then reflow the proper chip. Another possibility is actually freeze spray. It can temporarily Worsen or improve the issue when you freeze the chip that has the fault. You can purchase dedicated freeze spray, but using an air duster can, putting it upside down and VERY GENTLY pressing the drigger you can release drops of freezing liquid.
Thanks for the info guys! Lines appear immediately. Have not tried a heat gun but can of air or tapping on different parts of the board do not cause a change. I'm not super experienced with soldering/reflowing but there doesn't seem to be any visable breaks. Thanks again!
