I have a SNES which plays the games, but sections of random blocks of pixel appear, so the game appears messed up.
(Your character is a block for example, way off or out off line with the game, rendering them unplayable.

in titles, you'll see the same odd block or strip of white etc that shouldn't be there. Hmm.

Always in the same place, with each game. All games.

Troubleshooting this particular SNES- I have fully cleaned out the pin connector, thoroughly. it looks fine, even swapped it out for another, have checked over everything for continuity, and all appears to be well- really clean unit.

could that be an encoder issue? I have new capacitors ready to fit too, if required.

As I'm new to console repair, I hoped you may be able to offer a troubleshoot on it?

    EDIT:

    Ok, done.

Yes all games, same glitches each time, my test carts are super soccer, smartball and bass masters. I've tried with my good games too (super r type, ghouls n ghosts, Zelda etc) - I had two identical models, both with video output issues, cleaned them up nice and swapped the pin connectors out. This fixed one of them. The other now does the weird extra/messed up pixel thing.

So far, I have cleaned the board, replaced the fuse (it was blown when I got it) the 5v regulator and doing the caps today.

I realise this may not fix the issue but it's good experience for me so I'm doing it anyway! Bless Console5 Wiki.

If the pin connectors weren't like gold dust- I'd probably just get one, but cannot find anyone with them in stock. Anywhere. Also kind of defeats the point of getting the console for $5. The fuse, 5v and caps were $6 already.

What other common video related troubleshooting can I do?

I have a multimeter now, I'm getting continuity through components to the boards, the chips etc. I am happy to desolder components to test them, but if I had some guidelines and points to work through, I could start delving deeper ;). Advice gratefully received

Damn! That's messed up... mine is far less severe; you can almost play the game, bar a few glitchy random pixels, which are often in place of the games character - rendering the console useless. Ive been trying to fault find, but not having much luck- it all 'appears' ok. Always the same glitches in the same places. May be a chip or video/PPU issue - something beyond my current experience. Still hoping for the solution.
