I would like to try my hand at fixing this SNES I have. I know the fuse is bad and would like to attempt the mod location at the bottom of this guide:

    http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/snes-fuse.htm

The only thing lacking from the guide is if any glass 1.5a fuse will do the trick and if a 125v or 250v fuse is safe to use for this mod. My local Radio Shack usually carries what I need so I plan to hit them up first and go from there but before I jumped into this I figure I should ask about which fuse or fuses are safe to use.

Well I had a look on radioshack.com and they only have the 250v fuse,no 125v one's.I read online you can use a 250v one but it offer's less protection but if you want I have a busted snes mobo with a good fuse on it,I can desolder and send it to you in a envelope.

If you have a working fuse then yeah I would gladly take it off you hands. Would you happen to have the rest to this SNES as well? Or just the mobo? I'm looking for a case and an AC jack as well. The case crumbled as I took it apart. Let me know and we can work something out. Thanks for the offer.

Yea I've seen a few but I kind of wanted to try something different. I saw that guide on mmmonkey and thought "what the heck". I recently did a Dreamcast mod for the internal battery, the triple A battery mod, and it got me in the mood to tinker with some older projects sitting on my bench.

I've posted a list of electronics suppliers and it's stickied. Use one of those.

I would be interested to know why they claim a 250V rated fuse is no good....

You could always consider an automotive type blade fuse? Simply solder in 2 quick connects upright, and plug it in. I haven't tried this (maybe I should for giggles), so I am not sure on room etc.

I just soldered some glass fuse holders on my PAL unit and used 250v/1A glass fuse. It's been working fine for 3-4 years now

Good luck finding a 125V, 1amp blade fuse. Stick with AC fuses ;)

How did you make the fuse holder stay put? I found it would never "stick", probably because you're trying to do something solder isn't really suppose to do (sandwich it between two metal layers).

Just get it hot enough, it'll stay. I've done a few of them that same way. Never been a problem for me.

If you want to make absolute sure it'll stick, drill a small hole in each end of he clip and flow the solder through it to the board below. That'll make sure it's got a good hold.

Why would the fuse have to be 125V when it has 7-8Volt going through it?

What makes me laugh is that people will spend more time, money and effort trying to bodge a fuse holder in and putting a glass fuse in there than doing a proper job!

I'm also worried that they'd follow the instructions of someone who says he can't get the correct 1.5A fuse!

care to explain why a glass fuse + holder is not "proper" ?

And of course by money/effort you are surely joking right? 20 glass fuses + 2 sets of holders = 20cents. And don't always assume that because you can get a picofuse in your town then anyone else can.
