I got two snes one SNS-CPU-GPM-01 and the other a 02 both with video but no sound. I recapped one but still no sound. Could the sound chip be dead? or are any other components that could address that problem.

I got another two snes with graphic glitches too but with sound, sadly are other models, one with the sound module and the other a 1-chip -02.

If the sound/SPC700 CPU is dead, games will lockup or not run. Since these are only units, don't they have S-SMP and S-DSP chips? Maybe the DSP is dead but the S-SMP (has the CPU core in it) is functional. Or maybe you just have a bad solder joint or trace somewhere.

There is another thread here that shows that a dead S-APU is a possibility. But if games still run then it's atleast partially functional.

Yes this revision have the s-smp and the s-dsp I resolder the legs of those chip just in case it was that but no luck. The traces look fine at least the one I can see. Also before the recap it had a low buzzing sound, after the recap it disappear.

So games are functional other than no sound? If so then again the SMP is probably working atleast partially because if the SPC cpu was dead games would deadlock trying to communicate with it.

I'll have to find one of those test cart reproductions. So I can see the failing tests and components.
