    Ola chaps

Well I have a dead sub battery on my Neo Geo Pocket Color. At the moment it isn't the end of the world as I am keeping the system plugged into the mains with a Game Boy Pocket / Color AC/DC adapter and I have a CR 2032 battery in the mail.

In the mean time the warning that the memory is about to fail at every power on or off when messing with my NEOP22020 SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color to Sega Dreamcast communication connector cable is somewhat annoying.

The main things I'm wondering are

    a) is there a rechargeable battery that will fit into the CR2032 slot? (yes probably)
    b) is there a charging circuit for the sub battery (guessing no)
    c) if not, has someone designed / built / sold / posted schematics of one?
    d) if not, can anyone spare the time / effort to create one?
    e) whilst we're at it, can/will a similar deal be done to charge the R6 / AA batteries too?

Obviously any such modifcaitons mean it wouldnt be wise to use standard batteries any more but that won't be the end of the world provided the system works.

    Regards,

Pretty sure there was a rechargeable kit for the NGPC which you could leave in and charge with a cable plugged in!
I was eyeballing one of these along with a worm light...

Let me have a search around.

    EDIT: yep: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-ka-49-en-70-f7.html
    Now to locate one.

That kit will solve the main battery issue, but not the sub battery issue (which was my main point) :p

Basically, all I want to do is replace the CR2032 (which needs replacing quite frequently) with an ML2032 rechargeable battery which could last for several years before needing to be replaced again.

I'd like the charging circuit to use the AA / R6 power when there is no mains and mains when it is to recharge the ML2032 battery, but only when the system is powered off.

I'd also like it to detect when a non-rechargeable CR2032 battery is placed in the system instead so the charging circuit shuts down before the battery explodes.

My electronics is incredibly rusty. Whilst it may be possible for me to design my own circuit given time, there are people out there who are much more capable and who could complete the project much more quickly. My soldering is woefully bad, but I can at least follow instructions.

I think as no one seems to notice or care about a rechargeable sub-battery, or they're quite content with replacing a CR2032 whenever it craps out I'll have to just pay someone to mod my NGPC on my behalf and share the design for others to use if they wish.
