As you all know SNK has undergone an entire paradigm shift on what their company is to be and how involved they will be in gaming once again(and not pachislo/pachinko).
I for one am estatic they plan on Bringing back Samurai Showdown to it's past glory as well the possibility of another crossover with capcom.

Via Shoryuken.com: PlayStation 4 is quickly garnering quite the library of console-exclusive fighting games, the latest of which is SNK Playmore’s King of Fighters XIV.

In a recent interview with Tencent, SNK gaming division chief Yutaka Noguchi explained this decision, saying the reason is primarily due to the high worldwide sales of Sony’s eighth generation console. PlayStation 4 has been the clear sales leader this generation, having sold over 35 million units as of this past holiday season.

That said, Noguchi repeated many of the same sentiments from his recent Famitsu interview, and mentioned that they are still looking to bringing more games to Steam and mobile platforms. He also said that SNK Playmore is not just working on the King of Fighters franchise, but other properties such as Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug as well.

Finally, Noguchi again addressed the possibility of his company working with Capcom on another Capcom vs. SNK, but his answer remained the same: a new crossover game would need to wait for some time due to the company’s game development just getting back on its feet.

All in all, SNK Playmore’s acquisition by Ledo Millenium is looking promising for fans of their various properties. Stay tuned for more details.

SNK needs this. It's sad that the days of them being a contender in the industry are gone, but this is a good step.

They are also working on an animated KOF movie. There's a few articles from back when thy were purchased by a chinese company that SNK's vision of the future is to create what Marvel has done. Movies, games, etc. that all create a "universe" of characters but for SNK.

I think SNK has a LONG road ahead of them to get to that point. I think it would be more wise to focus on getting to where they once were in gaming. Not that I'm saying it's not going to be a decent film, but you have to have your priorities if you know what I mean

I do NOT want a Samurai Shodown with 3d Models though. It needs to look like Guilty Gear.

FTFY, Guilty Gear would be a happy medium though. Honestly I doubt they go back to the glory of 2/2.5D. Its easier and cheaper for them to make everything in 3D.

They bankrupted themselves on KOF XIII So 3d but celshaded seems to be their best bet for making 2d but not games.

    Agreed.

I find it funny how SNK is leaving pachinko behind due to the future of gambling in Japan being uncertain, because Konami is betting everything it has on the business booming.

Goes without saying Konami is out of touch with reality. RIP KONAMI. May a better company buy out your IP.

Back to SNK. Excited for KOF XIV but the 3d aspect rubs me the wrong way. Mostly becuase of how 3d has worked out for SNK in the past. Good games, many bad but nothing great. Although I haven't played Shodown 64 1 or 2.

I've never really been into KOF, but if I end up getting a PS4 and fightstick for SFV then I may as well pick it up. From what I've seen the graphics are worryingly bad though, even for a fighting game (where fantastic graphics aren't exactly expected all the time). It doesn't even look as good as vanilla SF4...

I was pretty excited for KoF XIV before I found out it has autocombos. Guess I'll have to accept that a) no KoF will ever be anywhere near as good as 98 UM and b) I'll never enjoy a new fighting game again.

I think how they look depends on if you like the art style to begin with. I like what they did with SFIV..some hate it. If you don't like the art style they used..you're probably not going to like SFV either.

KOF has gotten A LOT better and gets better with every single trailer they show, I still don't know if they've finalized it yet.

Of all the SNK fighters back in the day..I always considered Samurai Shodown to be their premier game. Heck, I remember the uproar the year EGM voted Samurai Shodown the #1 fighting game of the year beating Street Fighter. Most of the bitching was coming from guys who had never played SS which I found amusing.

In any case I am very, very excited to see what this paradigm shift can create. Hopefully KOF will do well, make them some cash and they can take some of that profit and make the next SS a true contender for "best fighting game" once again. I'd love to see it so good it becomes part of the tournament circuit..etc etc.

Lastly, Nice to see they have plans for Metal Slug as well! But what other SNK games would you like to see updated? I'd love to see a new Garou Mark of the Wolves and new Prehistoric Isle
