Unless they go and specifically add controller support for the tons of games on steam that DON'T. Then it's a waste of time.
Gabe has been bitching for years about the iPhone and how Valve missed on the whole social gaming shit. I'm glad they did because the last thing we need is HalfLifeVille, but still some say this is Valve trying to turn Steam into Android No wonder they are trying, if it works it could be HUGE: android has less than 4 years and it already command 54% of the world's smartphones
Correction: It wasnt intel that raped microsoft, it was Nvidia. Their contract had a fixed price, when nvidia were making the chip for next to nothing, they were still charging microsoft the original price. This is why the xbox 1 got dropped so fast.
You got a point there, but still AMD can provide a CPU+GPU solution that fits the bill and at a lower price. And besides after the failure of bulldozer valve would have the upper hand on negotiations
I prefer "Steamcast" Anyway, hopefuly it's not expensive. I rather buy a small, capable, form factor PC as has been rumoured than build one from scratch. Got lot's of Steam games but my laptop can't run them all...
I was really looking forward to bulldozer, and it turned out to be worst than the quad phenom it replaces... So either trinity changes everything or I dont give a fuck Next rig I make will probably be an intel, my first since 1999
I clicked this thread expecting page after page of "so how is it different than a PC" posts and fully ready to explain how this was more of a spec than a tangible product, and even compare it to the 3DO concept (which I champion). Clearly I underestimated the savvy of this forum. Which is precisely the reason I like and respect the members here so much. Intelligent, high level game development discussion, on MY internet? It's more likely than you think! FWIW I think this is awesome, and could really help the proliferation of PC gaming, as well as move it towards a more cohesive, unified platform. I think something like this would do far better than the 3DO because A) No licensing fees and B) Steam is near synonymous with PC gaming already. Something like this would launch with a killer library already.
Haha nice one! As you can already tell, I am a long time Dreamcast and Valve fan from my avatar. :highly_amused: I envision playing the newly released Half-Life Dreamcast mod for the PC version of HL1 that adds in all the Dreamcast exclusives to the Pc on this Steambox.
The only thing Bulldozer CPU's are good for, is flaunting your E-Peen with your ability to reach 7+GHZ overclocks...on 1 Core. With an inane ,impractical Cooling solution. Bulldozers can barely even compete with First Generation Nehalem/Bloomfield Core i7's. My i7 950@4.2Ghz can beat the poo out of a Bulldozer CPU and it's 3 years old. Still, If it has an IGP. What is the fucking point? Use something like the 560Ti/570 (once Kepler is released, that should push Retail prices alone way down) or the HD7770 , which performs at stock, nearly on par with a stock GTX460. And the 7770 is a pretty cheap card. The 460, even at stock can play a large majority of games at Max @1080p easy. And if it can't run it at 60FPS constant, there is always Framelimiting(+Triple Buffering) with Nvidia Inspector or with Afterburner. Both of which work generally very well.
Now you are talking crap: the 7770 sucks, its more expensive than a 6850 and fucking weak on benchmarks Even the 7750 ranks better on the bang/buck list If Valve goes for AMD graphics then its probably going to be the new 7850
