Glad you're alright buddy, but at least now statistics are on your side on the topic of bad accidents! ;)

(sorry, had to point that out)

You're right though. Even though I didn't have a bad accident like you, I certainly found that it had a profound impact on my outlook on life. You learn to appreciate everything a little more because you realize how fragile a human life can be.

Thanks for pointing that out! I just changed it. I had it all written out and perfect, then accidentally closed the window when I was trying to close a messenger window. So I just quickly retyped a fraction of what I had. Guess I was a little careless, hehe.

That's really a bad way to end the year. Glad to hear you're all ok.

A good friend of mine suffered a similar accident this summer (she was driving the car with her grandparents), she went off the road and the car started spinning, and it only stop about 3 m before hitting a brick wall from a nearby farm. She was really lucky that day, because she has a backbone problem (almost ended up in a wheelchair years ago) and any injuries in that zone would have been really serious.

Well, I just got home with my "new" used car. My parents got me a 2003 Ford Focus ZX3. It was cheap, had good miles, so I'm not complaining. It's a 4-banger, so it gets good gas mileage. It's my first compact car, and I have to say I like it. It looks really good in its gunmetal finish (They call it Liquid Gray)... I'll take pictures of it tomorrow and post them for all you fine folks to see for yourselves.

Wow. How could I miss this thread? I'm glad to read that you and your sisters are ok (btw, are they available? j/k! lol). Them GMs can take a beating. Just try not to get into an accident like you did back there in that focus. It might result in a long hospital stay.

Anyway, drive safe and have a happy new year!

Thanks madhatter. You're right about GM's being tough, I put that minivan through the ringer, even before I wrecked it. It had nearly 130K miles on it and it was still running strong. I could have easily put another 130K on it.

Anyhow, here I am with my "new" car...

I like it a lot, plus it's my favorite color (gunmetal). Let's hope this one lasts me even longer than my Montana!

Kudos for getting out the crash relatively fine. The focus is a decent car and by far the best colour for it is grey, never get a green one - its the colour mostly to crash lol (as provided to me by mates).
Oh and welcome to the "I rolled my car and got out alive" club.

The focus is a great car - I'm trying to work out if I can afford a 03ish one myself.
It was the best selling car over here for quite a few years in a row, purely because it's cheap to buy, cheap to run and pretty reliable. Also, it looked damn cool when it was launched - now it just looks a little silly

steadster, if I were you (in europe) I would definitely get a nice Fiat 500.

That car has everything! is like a gadget on wheels!

Plus I think is cheaper than the focus there.

Its also a fashion statement, and I don't want to be driving a fashion statement. Plus it's far too small for me to lug everything to and from uni whenever I need to. Also (finally) I'm definitely not looking at a new car...

You're right about the focus being a good car. It got all kinds of good reviews over here in the states as well. Oh, and if you need space to lug you stuff in, the trunks in these cars are surprisingly huge, and if you need more room the back seats fold down. That was the main selling point for me as well, because I have to haul all kinds of luggage back and forth from home to school during breaks, etc.

Oh, and I STILL think they look damn cool

That's a crazy story. I'm glad that everyone is OK. I was in a car accident myself once and reading your story brought back memories.

The MINI is a fashion statement, mostly becos you pay the price of better models like a Jetta or a Civic for a car thats way too small for most people.

You're literally paying for the brand there, while the 500 is all about the actual tech inside, and is not that small man! the Smart is small, the 500 can carry 4 people, so unless you like to carpool all day I say theres enough space inside it for most of your stuff.

I would get the 500 if I were in europe, that or the 1007 with those cool automatic doors:nod:

Damn why dont we have stuff like that over here?:-(

Because Most americans want V6s or larger and cars which by european standards are huge!
Having seen Fiat 500s, I know that I couldn't fit what I need. I do only do it about 6-8 times a year, but it would be a real pain to have to do 2 trips each time. I also regularly take 4 or so people in the car, and with me over 6'2", I can rarely fit people behind me in small cars.
For reference, I currently drive a Hyundai Accent from 99 - Yes, it's crap, but I couldn't survive with anything smaller.

6-8 times a year? just that? well if you arent getting a 500 why not a pickup truck?

Just j/k, but if you were moving that much stuff the trunk of a focus is not gonna be enough. You'll need a mondeo, or one of those 307 wagons.

Nope, didnt had the oportunity to do so, but saw some videos and the doors look awesome.

So is bad? why? is it the small engine?

And the 500 is considered to have a high quality level, unlike most fiat cars.
