I've had my eyes on the 2 Lunar Games acutally my PS1 collection goal is ALL Working designs games. But I don't want to pay out my ass for Lunar 1 and 2 only to be disapointed like I was with FF 7 I'm not a life long RPGer I'm farily new to RPGs in fact. I don't mind things turn based as long as ever 10 steps there isn't a random battle. I don't care what D it's in either. Just has to have a great story and a tolerable battle system. What about the other WD games? I have Alundra and enjoy it and Silouette mirage. But the RPGs both being expensive and old school I want to make sure I'll like before I drop $80 or more on them.
Lunar is fucking awesome. It's worth it on any system. It's just so charming. Of course, this is just me. I loved it as a kid. I still need to rebuy it, someone stole mine.
Of all the WD games I own, I can assure you that they are 100% quality. In my eyes, anyway. They chose some really really good games to bring over. Arc the Lad collection is one of my favorite SRPGs for the PS1, and Madhatter likes it even more than I do! Of course, Lunar was one of my first "Serious" RPGs, but I think it had a really charming story. Lunar 2 imho isn't as good as Lunar 1, at least the PS1 version, but its still worth it. I hear the Sega CD versions are BRUTAL, though. Might I also recommend Wild Arms 1 for the PS1? Or the remake for the PS2? The first one has good 2d graphics, though, but the battles look kinda cartoony. Once I get more time I can recommend more, but this is on the top of my head right now.
Lunar 1 = good, Lunar 2 = bad, but many think the opposite. Lunar 1 is a fairly short game however and sadly you probably won't want to replay it more than once. Lunar 2 I haven't completed, because it sickens me. I don't think any used game is worth $80 on principle, especially not Lunar.
It is a wholesome game. Graphics, storyline, animation, voice fit just right to make it what it is known for...
I think it should be: Lunar = Awesome Lunar 2 = Not as awesome as Lunar 1 I liked Lunar 2's story and characters, especially Lucia. I probably liked her because of her "eventual" personality and her character design, though.
I purchased both Lunar Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete back when they were originally released (thank God). Silver Star Story was the 1st rpg I ever played completely through and I will never forget the experience. I doubt you will be disappointed in either game, knowing that they are indeed old school. And as others have stated, they are incredibly charming, great story, and have incredible soundtracks...tunes that to this day sometimes pop into my head having not heard them in years. They just feel.....right.
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is one of my favorite RPGs ever. I owned it for the Sega CD, and when I found out it was to be released in North America for PSOne, I put down my pre-order money immediately... and I didn't even have a PS at the time. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue I never had the chance to play on Sega CD, so I again put down a pre-order for it on PSOne. I got a pretty cool puppet of Ghaleon I still have. I much preferred L:SSSC. One of my old girlfriends was not a gamer, but she loved Lunar:SSSC. If anything, I would suggest picking up the first one, and if you like it, then possibly the second one.
Both Lunars are Great Games... I actaly prefer the Sega CD versions over the PS1 versions... (but that is mainly because i have a soft spot in my heart for the Sega CD..) I can't rememebr which game it came with but when i reserved one of the Lunars for PS1 i got a Free Galleon Punch puppet... its pretty sweet and and came in a pretty cool box as well.. (Any one else remmebr that!?!?!)
Erm... definitely go with the Sega CD version of Silver Star Story over the PS1 version... since they kinda messed up the story a bit in the PS1 version. I think Lunar Eternal Blue is virtually the same either way though? Though I want to say they did mess up something in the remake.
Lunar's Sega CD and PS1 version are wayyy different. They took a LOT of stuff out and put new stuff in. As for Lunar 2, its mostly the same, but they cut out some bosses and made the game easier.
