I mean is that a statement that we can say now? I was just browsing through the 360 titles and there are quite a few that I want to get...Fear, Lost Planet, Oblivion, Gears of War... I really can't rememebr when I had to limit my buying because usually I can pass on 99% of the games released.

Did Sony's PS3 release flop cement the XBOX? At what point did it go from struggling to compete to a competitor? When Halo 2 came out the XBOX was still far behind Sony. I remember GTA 4 selling 4-5 many copies during it's initial run when it was released at about the same time. That made me think that even tho Halo 2 was major hit it was still drawfed by the premier PS2 title.

The 360 launch was good, but still not a big enough splash in my opinion. Maybe now that the good titles have arrived was can say that XBOX has made it?

Over 10 million consoles sold in just over a year, a high game attach rate, companies re-evaluating their development plans (ie: Capcom)...yes, I think it's safe to say that the Xbox has "made it" and is here to stay.

Now let's not get carried away oldengineer... =D .

But yes, the 360 is doing really well. At launch I couldn't picture myself getting one, yet here I am pondering on a purchase in the nearby future. The rock solid Xbox Live is becoming more and more of an point of attraction as well.

It even won me over, through a combination of Gears and Lost Planet as well as Dead Rising. All excellent games. I'd say yeah it made it (this coming from someone who really really didnt like xbox at all)

I was slightly entheusiastic about it at first but all the VGA issues and bugs have tempered that quite a bit; i dont even dare to buy a new game anymore without checking out forums first to see if i can actually play it.

You're petrified of buying a game because of iffy VGA output?
Why not just play it on a normal TV then?

I think the XBox made it last generation, at least in the USA. The PS2 obviously had a massive chunk of the market, but we can expect to see Sony and Microsoft even off in terms of market share in this new generation and into the next, just like the good/bad old days of the Nintendo & Sega era. The market can support 2 major formats and the industry can if they port major titles between the two. Nobody in the industry wants to see Sony or Microsoft fail because competition drives forward technology, encourages the creation of decent development enivronments and keeps licensing costs down.

We're going to see the XBox360 come out on top this round and Sony will be forced to pick up their game next time. And so on, and so on. I think the difference between the XBox and Playstation formats will dwindle however, because exclusives will be thin on the ground and most software will be written to "fit" on both systems or made with middleware solutions.

I'm still going to sit on the fence for at least another 6 months and see what happens.

Edit: I wonder how much the XBox360 cost in R&D?

My TV doesnt do 1280*1024 (or any HD res). Plus, kinda hard to use the TV if the misses is watching ER/Gilmore Girls/Grey's Anatomy/McLeod's Daughters/ETC ETC ETC.

If all of you can recall, the first games of the 360 were far from Brilliant.

Nevertheless, for me, Kameo made it a nice dish, but the rest of the games like Peter Jackson's Ding Dong, Gun, etc were just sloppy ports. That said, the PS3 enjoyed a better FPS than the 360 at launch.

Fall of man, is more fun the PDZ. PDZ disgusted me for some reason.

The 360, has established its user-base, it's increasing in popularity, and it's natural that the spot-lights are turning towards it. Also, it's pioneering online service is amazing - only microsoft could pull that off.

I ll wait and see before I pass my final judgment on SONY's new monster though.

Where "all the VGA issues" is limited to two games (PGR3 and GoW) not behaving properly in one (1280x1024) resolution.

I was just giving credit for the time from launch to recent Live update. ;)

That, and for anyone without access to Live, it's still "broken."

Actually it was in 1024*768 too (GoW that is). I also heard there was some VGA problem with Oblivion although i havent checked that myself since im not interested in the game. I also had problems getting Hitman to run. It refused to run with the VGA cable, i had to connect it to a TV to change an option and THEN it would run with VGA. Thats 4 games instead of 2, and its a f****ng disgrace.

PAL games that dont do 60hz are excluded from backward compatibility over VGA cable on the 360. That's sad:( but so is PAL/SECAM

GoW never gave me any issues in 1024x768, as I posted in another thread.

And yes, PAL specific issues do not equate to VGA issues.

hl718, I could blame this on the 360, you know why?

Although LCD monitors don't do refresh rates under 60Hz, which is in accord witht he forementioned bottleneck regarding PAL50, CRT computer monitors can handle 50Hz (most of them).

As such, there should be an option to choose. And for the info, I have been able to run 50Hz 480p on a CRT monitor without a hitch, using a component to VGA box (of course this didn't work on an LCD monitor)

You know what is funny about the whole thing? Sony sort of shot themselves in the foot with their price range. $500 for the bottom end version of the PS3 (Not including cables for HDTVs) V.S. $400 for the top end 360 model (Or pay $300 for the bottom end and get the hard drive later). As history has shown: The higher your price, the more likely you are to fail (Saturn, older 16-bit era systems, etc).

Its won me over....as soon asa it comes with a larger hard disk. In fact, I'm going to get one sometime for Guitar hero 2 so that I can get the extra songs (The Trooper by Iron Maiden!) and the downloadable songs(I already have it on the PS2)

Dead rising and GoW both interest me, and I'd get table tennis due to its cheapness and apparent value!
