    In my experience, on SHVC consoles, when the sound module is not properly connected, nothing will work at all. No games boot. I have not tried the test cart but I know regular games will just display a black screen.

    I do have one SNES mobo that has all the colors messed up. But beside this works all right. It is also the only non SHVC defective board I have at the moment. PPU issue you think?

    That's simply because the libraries Nintendo provided the programmers are designed to halt all the processing if it cannot upload a sound program to the sound module (APU). The test cartridge does not attempt to use the sound module when it draws the initial menu. That's one of the hints you get from it, with that you know that at least half of the stuff on the CPU chip is running. Some games hang at the developer's logo when the sound module is bad and a select few work 100% without the module. It depends on when and how the game in question init the sound module. Likewise there's a few Mega Drive games which run fine with the Mega Drive having it's Z80 cpu removed. Simply because these don't even bother starting the Z80 up.

    About wrong colors, I would check the RGB lines with a o-scope. There's RGB amp circuits with two transistors for each color channel. Have those checked.
