because it's pretty... Even with the dark and gloomy 'atmosphere' that the game has.

There are 10+ mods that the game NEEDs to be playable on the PC.
It is worst than fallout3/NV for wonky controls, but at least it's more stable...

The game is so pretty in VR. It's a blast to walk around that world. There are only a few games whose worlds are a joy to walk around in ATM. Half Life 2 VR, obviously. Portal 2 definitely. Battlefield 4 without a doubt. Bioshock Infinite to a degree (it looks kinda like a pixar movie given the art style). But Skyrim is wonderful in VR.

Worked right out of the box for me, too.

^This, this was my main point with this thread. Although tbh I did not find Oblivion to suffer obvious consolitis. Nor fallout 3. They had early signs maybe but they still felt like PC games to me.
    Skyrim however...

The modding scene really saved skyrim didn't it? There are so many great mods, its almost too much to gulp all at once.
Do you have mods to suggest? I do not think you need as much as 10, I have about 5 now only 2 of those are sufficient to turn default Skyrim into something feeling more like a proper PC game.

    SkyUI

    OneTweak

I just installed this one and its great.
This transforms the Fullscreen mode into borderless windowed mode, which looks just like fullscreen but you can alt-tab properly.
But using windowed mode also apparently fixes, or greatly help with the input lag! I now run the game high detail in full resolution 1920x1200 with Vsync and I do not have this horrid lag!
Why didn't Bethesda fix this themselves seriously? Hope they are thankful to have such a great fanbase to polish their games.

Well, the good news is I do not have to upgrade my Outdated, obsolete dinosaur of a computer just yet ;)

You gotta give credit when its due. The Fallout 3 engine was a patched oblivion engine. It did not multithread properly and as you said was not as stable as Skyrim.
The Skyrim engine however is a major overhaul, it uses all my 4 cores equally and has not crashed once in 4 days, beside glitching up when I used to Alt-tab in fullscreen mode. Which OneTweak mod fixed.

    Edit:
Oculus rift! Wish I could try that.

I found it played like a dream compared to the first game. Better story than Oblivion.

The first game? Arena? I never played that myself but recall that Daggerfall (the 2nd game) was a pile of garbage.

I do not really play Bethesda games for the stories but rather for the cool sandbox worlds.

I will be upgrading my computer this week, I5-4670k. Maybe I will try if Skyrim plays like crap on this one without mod.

Because I believe Skyrim without mods is worse than Oblivion in many regards.
