I'm looking for communities that are hardcore into specific genres or games of current gen consoles.

Obviously Sonic community is at http://www.sonicretro.org/

But, what about like a Gran Turismo Community; Street Fighter Community, Halo, Fifa, Madden, etc.

Any help would be awesome.

I don't think so, although you're on the right track. The guy you're thinking of is Simon Wai, and he was only "behind" the first Sonic 2 beta inasmuch as he found a dump of it on a Chinese ROM site and documented the differences on his website. Last I heard he'd long since left the scene.

It should be fairly obvious from my post that I wasn't trying to diminish what he found (or what you were saying), yet you want to turn it into a fight between me and you. Since you want a pissing match, I shared a PS2 proto here which is unreleased on any platform. If you have access to it then give it a go. You should know where to find it.

That's pretty accurate. It was on some geocities site, having been dumped from a pirate cart that was floating around the usual places. So no, he didn't dump it himself. Given the noise you're making over this I'd assume you know the story already.
