So I'm the guy working on the Breath of Fire 2 retranslation.

    ...Now that I've gotten your attention, please note that the topic title is a lie. The original mastermind for the project is d4s, who did all the original coding and worked programming miracles implementing a VWF, expanded text boxes, extended character, item and spell names and numerous other tweaks. If you can speak German (or don't mind playing a game written entirely in the language save for its title), you can check out his translation right now.

    No, I'm the guy who signed on to produce an English script for the translation. It hasn't been easy: while the finished product is a masterwork, much of the infrastructure was based around the needs of the German language, and I was initially left quite in the lurch. I managed to wrangle the ability to produce a testable product out of d4s, allowing myself leeway in changing fonts (an absolute must, as I was missing punctuation symbols), character lookup tables (the VWF and 8x16 FWF didn't agree in matters of punctuation), character names, text box sizes and selection highlights, adding my own code hacks (a tab function for formatting, for starters, and a character lookup table for the 8x8)...thankfully, the lion's share of the work is behind me, and I am happy to say that the project is nearing completion.

    However, there have been other obstacles. A bug in the string printing routines hung up the project for three months: location and spell names would not print in full in some contexts. This, after a long silence by d4s, was finally fixed by me. There is also a bug extant even in the German version, where it is impossible to buy stacks of items in shops. This I would like to see fixed before I release the English version of the patch.

    My reason for coming to these forums is that the long silence I mentioned has yet to be broken. I have been unable to get any sort of reply from d4s since November 2007, and this is the only place I've been able to find that he still frequents. I've tried PMing him to no avail, which can only mean that he is intentionally ignoring me, and I don't have any idea why.

    I was hoping that posting a topic might inspire him to present some answers...or maybe inspire someone else who he won't ignore so readily to pester him for some. If he can't be bothered to help with the project he started, he could at least provide me with the rest of the source code and resources so I can ferret out that pesky shop bug...

    I came from Romhacking.net. ^_^;

    Anyway, I have no idea why the heck d4s is ignoring me, so I figured something over-the-top might get his attention.

    And it's technically a half-truth, since right now I am the only one really working on it (unless d4s has some kind of surprise planned), but "the topic title is a half-truth" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. ^_^;
